So my goal was to post a new blog on the first of every month. I missed the April deadline. I’m blaming it on April Fools, but the only fool is me. Where did March go? Just yesterday it was my birthday and now it’s April 2nd. What happened to those 7 days in between?
Of course it would help if Mother Nature cooperated, but she is a fickle female if ever there was on. Yesterday, April 1, it snowed. With all the rain and snow so late in the season, it’s hard to wrap my brain around the fact that’s it’s spring. But – now that I’ve come to terms with the reality of the season, I really want it to be spring-like outside. Now that I’m fully aware that it’s April, I’ve suddenly developed cabin fever and I want out of here! I need to ditch these winter duldrums and welcome warmer weather with open arms.
So, in my mind I’ve officially accepted spring. It’s time to work on the tan, dig out the tank tops and shorts, dust off the flip flops and whip up an icy margarita! In fact, I’ve gone from cabin fever to spring fever in a mere 24 hours. I need to get out of here, see the world, soak up some sun!
But, I can’t go AWOL just yet. Vacation’s not for another couple of months. Dang it!
In the meantime I’m vacationing in my mind. Today I took a little cyber stroll down memory lane and compiled a photo album of fun vacation’s past to share with you. I hope you’ll enjoy the next couple of minutes mentally vacationing with me. I will be your narrator and tour guide as we go along.
Enjoy!
This was an awesome find on my trip to Walt Disney World in 2009!
This little hidey hole was a great find because later that same day we rode out a thunder storm in this shop while sipping hot chocolate and thumbing through a wide variety of books!
Here is my hubby having a little pre-show fun with his 3-D glasses at Mickey’s Philharmonic in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World.
Here I am developing my musical talent at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at the Wilderness Lodge campgrounds at Walt Disney Word. My skills improved considerably as I consumed more wine.
And no trip to Disney World would be complete without some pictures of Cinderella’s beautiful color-changing castle and fireworks!
In 2010 my husband and I took a mini vacation to Disneyland (we’re Disney geeks in case you didn’t notice by now) where we saw the most recent entertainment addition to Disney’s California Adventure Park, The World of Color light, laser and water extravaganza! I got this awesome photo just as the show was ending.
And who can resist a spin in a pink teacup?
In 2011 my husband and dad and I took a day trip to Yosemite and got some beautiful shots of the valley floor, Half Dome and numerous water falls.
Here are some pictures of sunny places from our Caribbean cruise starting with an awesome shot of Miami Beach, followed by three shots of St. John and then sunset over the bay at St. Thomas.
This is me wondering why in the heck I didn’t wear my bathing suit! Most likely it was my husband’s fault. Yeah, that’s it.
And a fun get-away to Mexico in December of 2008 with my husband and our nieces and nephew. The first photo is a nice lunch buffet on the beach in Matazlan. I’m the one with the cool shades. Next to me is my niece Jennifer. Across from Jennifer is her twin Zach and behind Zach is their big sister, Stephanie. Good times! Good food! Pay no attention to the date in these photos. I forgot to remove the date stamper thingey mabob from the camera settings. (I’m a dork that way.)
Next stop is Cabo San Lucas for a little lunch, tequila tasting and bug munching for dessert. That’s right, I said bugs. I ate a bug. On purpose. Again with my really cool shades, I explain the correct way to enjoy tequila – shake, shoot, squeeze, repeat. My nephew is just under the legal drinking age in Mexico, but he played it cool and sat at the big kids’ table with me and his older sister. It’s obvious from the looks on their faces that they do not play drinking games on a regular basis. (That’s a good thing!) Me on the other hand . . . .
After sampling the different tequilas, we are ready for our dessert. I had an unusual reaction after crunching up my locust (or maybe it was a cricket). It wasn’t bad. Zach seemed to enjoy his; Stephanie, not so much. A little tequila and insects never hurt anyone.
Lesson to nieces and nephew – what happens in Mexico does not necessarily stay in Mexico. (First I corrupt them, then I exploit them. What are aunts for?)
So now, does seeing this make you want to go on vacation as much as I do? Where’s your favorite vacation spot? I’d love to hear about a fun trip you took.
Word of the day: Evaginate
Fun fact about me: I love to color in coloring books!
Wow! Thanks for sharing your family vacation photos! I’m one of those people that loves seeing other people’s photo albums, home videos, etc. It looks like you’ve had some great vacations.

Beautiful photos. Now I am wishing I could take a holiday, too. We had four inches of snow up here on Saturday.
I suppose you would guess our best vacation was 23 days in the Scottish Highlands four and a half years ago. Maybe it’s Europe because along with that trip we also spent a month back and forth with our ‘kids’ in Sweden and Holland twenty one years ago. We were actually there to be in a wedding in a Dutch castle and spread the traveling around to get to know our Swedish exchange daughter’s ‘other’ family. I am really ready to travel again. We haven’t been on a holiday since Scotland.
As always, great post. Your photos are wonderful, your hubby adorable in his dark glasses. 🙂

We’re going on the Western Caribbean cruise, the one you guys just took, in early June. We are so excited. Except we’re leaving from Miami instead of New Orleans, but same ports. I can’t wait!!
So good to see you here today, Aunty Cindy. I greatly appreciate all of the SVR support.

Wow, you got snow yesterday? No wonder you have cabin fever. It’s supposed to be 82 here in SoCal today! I live for spring and summer, so I feel for you. What a great idea for a blog post! I really enjoyed taking this trip with you. Looks like you’ve been on lots of fun vacations. We went to Disneyland and Calif. Adventure (my first time at CA Adven.) for Thanksgiving. Got in with a guest pass from a friend and were with my daughter and her hubby and his family. It was a blast! Yosemite is my hubby’s favorite place to vacation. I love Hawaii. I’ve never been out of the U.S. so I’m not a big traveler. That’s one thing I love about blogs, I get to see where all of you guys have traveled and see your cool pics. Oh, and the bugs – yep, good protein! LOL!

Ha ha ha ha. Good protein!! I love that. Actually, my nephew didn’t want to eat the bug because he’s a vegetarian. Can you believe that? I told him that if he was going to drink the tequila, he had to eat the bug. He was a good sport about it too.
I’m lucky that Yosemite is just a three hour drive. It’s nice to get up really early and drive over there to enjoy that awesome piece of God’s country once in a while. It is amazing there!
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. I have many more from other trips but they’ll have to keep for another post when I feel the need to “get out.”
Thanks for stopping by, Lynn.

Awesome photos! I am so craving a vacation. I love cruises, road trips and our big trip to Ireland was great too. This summer we are going on a big extended family vacation to Israel to visit my father in law’s family and see the sights. 🙂

Israel – that’s quite the trip! I hope you have a fantastic time!
I love cruising as well. It’s the best way to see a lot of things in a short span of time because your hotel and stuff goes with you and you don’t have to keep packing.
Thanks for stopping by today, Coleen!

My most memorable vacations are our trips to Germany to visit the friends we made when we lived there early in our marriage. Wunderbar!

Germany is on my bucket list. I have never been anywhere near that part of the country. The closest I got was the British Virgin Islands.

That’s hilarious Patricia! LOL!
Ah, yes, Disney! I live twenty minutes away from Disneyland and several of my friends hold yearly passes. Yes, they’re that devoted! So I understand.
And who doesn’t love Yosemite. It’s just so beautiful there and I’m glad you had the opportunity to see the fall! You obviously went at the perfect time of year.
Then there’s Mexico and Tequila. Yes, they seem to go hand in hand. But eating an insect goes beyond my comprehension girl. Okay.
Good to see you! I hope we hear from you again real soon! Take care1 🙂

Hi Karen. Thanks for stopping by. I’m guessing from your comments that you wouldn’t have eaten the bug? When in Rome . . .
So you live close to Disneyland then. Are you going to the RWA writing convention in July? It’s at the Marriott right by Disneyland. I’ll be there. I’d love to meet you if you’re there. Let me know.
As always, thanks for your support.

Those are some beautiful photos! Love the ones of Disneyland at night and Yosemite. And the one of your husband in the 3D glasses. 🙂 But those spinning teacups – count me out!
Thanks for sharing these!

Hi Jennette.
I don’t actually ride the teacups. That one was stationary for photo opportunities. I used to love that ride, but as I got older, it became less exciting. I suppose I could be persuaded to take a gentle spin around the saucer, but you’d haveto coax real hard.
Thanks for stopping by and traveling with me for a few minutes.

The teacup hooked me, but my reaction to bug eating is the same as Stephanie’s. Oh, those Yosemite photos! I want to go there.
Isn’t it great that photos or reminisences from a friend’s vacation can stir up wanderlust and prod us into a little trip-planning of our own?
I hope spring reaches you before the weekend’s out. Snow on April 1? Is that Mother Nature’s idea of a joke?

Hi Pat. Good to see you and I’m glad I inspired you to want to go on holiday! I love looking at other people’s vacation photos. It’s especially fun to see places I’ve never been to.
No bugs for you – no tequila for you. You can’t have one without the other.
Spring is slow to reach us here in Northern California this year. Finally the rain and snow have stopped, but it’s still really cold. My poor bulbs are trying to bloom, but they keep getting shut down. Maybe after Easter spring will evidence itself a little more.
Thanks for visiting today. Good to see you.
