Does anybody remember that Eddie Rabbitt song? As I compose this post I’m listening to the pitter patter of raindrops on my front porch. Well, actually, it’s more like a torrential downpour, but pitter patter of raindrops is so much more poetic.
I’m usually not a fan of rain, but I realize that it’s a necessary part of life. I’m especially fond of rain when it blows in in the dead of night and by morning has moved on. The world is sparkling with raindrops and everything is fresh and new under the sun’s warmth. That’s when I really like rain.
But days like today don’t bother me so much. Yeah, it’s raining, but I’m inside where it’s dry and warm so let it rain.
However, I am not a fan of thunder and lightning – by day or by night. I see a lot of cool pictures of lighting doing its thing in a cloud-drenched sky and I think, “wow.” But to witness it first-hand, noooottt so much. Especially if I’m driving. I have a tendency to close my eyes when lightning flashes. Not good if you’re behind the wheel.
And my poor dog shivers something awful when thunder shakes the house. Yeah, he’s a wimp. I feel bad for him when he cowers at my feet shivering like a dead leaf on a tree branch. He won’t even be coaxed into having a treat during those times of terror. Poor, poor, dog. (What can I say? He’s my fur baby and I love him.)
How about your readers? Do you love a rainy night? Do you like thunder storms? Do you have a fraidy-cat pet? Inquiring minds want to know.
Word of the Day: Abaca
Fun fact about me: Unless I’m swimming or showering, I don’t like to be wet.

Now you’ve got that tune running through my head! I like rainy days a lot, as long as I don’t have to go outside. My late but always loved wheaten terrier, Maggie Muggins, used to snuggle up beside me as close as she could possibly get whenever it thundered. I miss her … a lot …

Awww – I miss Maggie Muggins, too (on your behalf). Dogs are so precious. My old man is such a wimp during thunder storms. I have to laugh at him sometimes, but then I feel bad. He’s a cuddler, too.
And, sorry for the ear worm. At least it’s a nice tune and not something annoying.
As always, thanks for your support. Have a great week.

I remember that song! I’m a rain fan…maybe because I’m a native Oregonian. If you don’t love the rain, you’re in the wrong place. There’s nothing better than a quiet evening listening to the rain on the roof, butt on the couch, book in one hand and hot drink in the other. And I love lightning storms, so long as I’m inside. I was once in Nebraska visiting relatives during a thunderstorm (stupidly outside in a field–I blame my cousin), and the thunder was so vicious it knocked us off our feet. Needless to say, we ran back inside after that. My pets are immune to fear, so storms don’t bother them. 🙂

Outside in Nebraska in a thunderstorm? Yeah, not a good idea.
I guess we know why I don’t like in Oregon. Or Washington. But, I’m glad you love it.
Pets immune to fear? Hmmmm. It’s those demon cats I suppose.
Thanks for visiting and have a great week.

I used to love rain at night when I was a kid, especially the sound of it trickling through the downspouts. I don’t hear it in my current house. But I’ve always hated thunderstorms at night, as I’m a light sleeper. Nowadays, I don’t like it much because low pressure brings on bad sinus headaches. It doesn’t bother my dog at all, even thunderstorms!

I know what you mean about the low pressure affecting sinuses. I sort of get headachy, too.
Nature is powerful that’s for certain. All that booming and shaking at night keep me up as well. And then I’m laying there worried about my dog. Sheesh.
Have a great week Jennette. I’m thinking about you enjoying all of that pre-prepared food you made. I’m off to figure out what to fix for dinner.

I thought of that song as soon as I read your post’s title. I feel the same way you do about the rain, except I do like a good old fashioned thunderstorm if the family is all safe at home and the thunder and lightning is a safe distance away. Our dogs get scared, too, but not quite as bad as your poor little guy.

Oh I’m so glad someone else has a dog who doesn’t like thunder. Pets are such interesting creatures.
Thanks for stopping by and stay out of the rain. I’m trying to be more interested in thunderstorms now that they happen so much more frequently in my life, here in MIssissippi, but I’m still not really feeling the love.
Have a great week.

I kind of like rain. Or I like it afterward, how it looks on flowers and how the plants and greens look extra green. I like being in water, but I don’t like getting out and having to get dry! I don’t think I’ve been to any of the countries that grow Abaca. Happy Friday!

I’m with you on how everything looks AFTER a rain; all sparkly and fresh. And it usually smells good outside, too.
I’m okay in the water if I’m swimming or participating in some kind of water sport, but just being wet, when I’m supposed to be dry? Not so much. Kind of yucky in fact.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never been to any countries that grow Abaca either. You and me – roadtrip?
