School’s out for summer!!
Alice Cooper is one of the creepiest performers around, but everybody loves this song and it’s so apropos this time of year. It’s one of those classic, ageless numbers that every generation seems to know.
I remember as a kid looking forward to the last day of school. Summer meant, sleeping in, no homework, lazy hot afternoons and vacation!
Usually our family vacations centered around a road trip to Minnesota, where we originated before moving to California in 1969. We took as many different routes as possible to that great state and we saw a lot of this great nation, including most of the national parks west of the Mississippi River.
Well, there were those occasional trips to Disneyland as well. In fact, if I’m going to be completely honest, we probably went to Disneyland more than we went to Minnesota, but who’s counting at this stage of the game? It’s still one of my favorite destinations.
How do you enjoy spending your summers? Any particular venues of special places you look forward to traveling too each year? Please share as I am always looking for new vacation spots. Who knows, I might end up in your neck of the woods some day.
If you get the hankering to visit the deep south, you’re always welcome at the Baer House Inn! Make it your new summer destination spot.
Word of the day: Pabulum
Fun fact about me: I love road trips!

Already had my first road trip – to Michigan and back. Growing up we didn’t take many road trips Andrew if we did they were short day trips. Summer is already 11 days in here and softball camp for my daughter stats today. College registration looms for my son and another trip up north – several in fact. Pablum – had to look it up – great word and it keeps the grey matter working. Have a wonderful week.

Oh, how how I wish I could edit my spellchecker! Andrew should be just plain ol’ and!

I undermeant what you stood, Clay. Proof reading is not fool proof.
I know you enjoy your trips to the lake. Good luck to your kiddo in her softball adventures and to your son as he stretches his adult legs in the college world.
Have a great week.

We used to take family summer trips to Nebraska, where my mother is from and where my grandparents used to be. I was always so happy to return to Oregon and the trees! But visiting NE was always fun because it’s so different. I’ll never forget the tornado notices there…that never happens in OR. But honestly, what can beat Disney World? Only, not in summer. Too hot. Too many people. Too, too long lines. Skip school in September and go!

Oh – you’re one of those “skip school” Disney goers. I hate those people. (Not really, but seriously, shouldn’t kids be in school in September?)
I know what you mean about the tornado warnings. I remember them fondly in Minnesota as well. And now, occasionally, here too. Yikes.
Here’s to a great kick-off to summer!

My boyhood summers were mainly filled with the sweet smell of freshly mowed grass on the golf course and the noise of the sprinklers spraying water on the grass. We did take vacations, too, and I guess my favorite was 1958, when we included Disneyland among our stops. It was pretty new at that time.

See – everyone treks to Disneyland at least once in their childhood. If not, they sure should.
Absolutely nothing wrong with mowing grass for some summer spending money. Unless you had to mow because you were in trouble. In which case, I hope you learned your lesson Mister.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great summer.

One of my and my husband’s favorite places to go is the Great Smoky Mountains. Looking forward to a motorcycle trip there later this year!
My other favorite thing to do for vacation is read–but not pablum. LOL!

I would love to have a reading vacation. Wouldn’t that be the best? Nothing to do all day but read? And maybe enjoy a cold beverage and an occasional dip in a pool. It would have to be without pablum for sure. Who wants that?
The Great Smoky Mountains are in the heart of God’s country. I love that place, especially in the fall. Enjoy your travels.

Well, I love road trips–and Minnesota is on my list! I recommend Cumberland Island, GA. We went at the end of February and I definitely want to go back already. And pabulum is kinda a fitting word around our house lately. Dear son had corrective jaw surgery (which went great) and he’s on smoothies and pureed soups for the next few weeks. Every time i walk into the kitchen it looks like baby food bits in the sink, on the counter, on the blender base…:)
Hope you have a great week!

Ewe – you son’s situation does not sound fun. I hope he recovers quickly.
I shall add Cumberland Island to my list of “places to see.” I saw your photos and it looked pretty dang cool.
I hope you get to Minnesota. It’s a beautiful state. However, I’d prefer you came to Mississippi, that way I could see your pretty face in person. Add Vicksburg to your list.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!
