There’s something special about a front porch. Front porches come in all shapes and sizes; there’s one for every taste. I’ve always loved porches, front or back. I’m blessed here at the Baer House to have a front porch, 2 back porches (first and second level) and a balcony on the second floor in the front of the house.Â
Front porches just scream SIT, RELAX! And it seems as though rocking chairs are a must, although I’ve found swings are nice too. We have an eclectic mix of old and new, modern and antique porch furnishings. We can’t seem to decide on a specific style so we’re just keeping this hodge-podge of still usable stuff for now. I sort of see this for us, but perhaps it’s too modern for our 150-year-old house. It’s clean, simple, elegant and yet still inviting.
I love to sit on my porch and enjoy the sounds of nature. I enjoy the quiet twilight evenings with a glass of wine. I enjoy mid-day lunch on the porch with a glass of iced tea. I enjoy sitting on the front porch and chatting with my neighbor. Porches are just happy places.
Here are some pictures I’ve gathered of porches that I would LOVE to sit on.
I love that you can put a porch on just about any kind of house – anywhere. Here’s some vastly different homes, yet all dress up nice with a porch.
I took a bunch of photos of my porches, but my phone and my laptop refuse to acknowledge each other, so you’ll have to settle for these older versions.
What do you feel when you see a front porch? Are rocking chairs a “must-have” for a porch? Do you have a porch? I’d love to see a picture.
Word of the Day: Refection
Fun fact about me: I’m really liking the Adirondack chairs on our porch. Perhaps we’ll acquire more of those. They’re not really a southern thing, but they look nice and they weather well.

Do you take a refection out onto the porch with you? My wife would agree with you about front porches. We have a rather small one with one chair on it, but neither of us sits out there.

And why do you and your beloved not enjoy the porch? You should add another chair and go sit there together.
Thanks for visiting. I do not take a refection on my porch. Perhaps I should.

I’ve never lived in a house with a porch, but pictures of porches, especially with swings and rocking chairs, just make me want to sit there with a glass of iced tea and kick my heels back for awhile. Whenever I make my future trek to Baer House, I’ll definitely spend some time there if you get the spiked tea ready. đŸ™‚ Have a great week!!

One thing lacking in my current house is porches. It has them; they’re just not big enough to do much with. The new house will be very different!

Oh yay – a brand new porch on a brand new house!! Happy times await.

I have a front porch on my house but rarely use it.
I did, however, use * your * front porch when I stayed at Baer House this year. đŸ™‚

I’m so glad you enjoyed my porch. We have such lovely porches. You should use yours more often. When you’re not out running all over the place.
Have a great day. Keep on running.

Beautiful porches! I’m like you…we have a veranda that wraps around the front and side of our house, plus a deck on the back. We spend a lot of time (from spring to fall) enjoying the outdoors. It’s a great place to be quiet and daydream.

Be quiet and daydream . . . I love that! Your porch sounds lovely. And back decks are great for night time dinners, BBQing and hanging out.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’re lovely face graces one of my porches in the future.
