I remember my mom sometimes complaining about little aches and pains she was experiencing, almost every day. (I’m sure I was the cause of some of those headaches.) Anyway, as a teen-ager I used to think my mom was just saying these things so my brother and I would feel sorry for her and not give her any grief those days because she wasn’t feeling good. I mean, come on, how can someone have a new pain every – single – day?
Sometimes I would ask her about her – in my mind, phantom – aches and pains and she’d always respond that she hadn’t hurt herself, nor was she sick, she just had a sore back or a kink in her neck or a pain in her elbow/knee/ankle whatever. I’d roll my eyes, mutter “whatever,” and be off on my merry way to, undoubtedly, cause some sort of headache-inducing trouble.
Well, now that I’m an adult, I’ve been experiencing these weird aches and pains. I know – right? Karma? Apparently, my mother wasn’t kidding around. You see, I too, sometimes wake up with a sore back, pain in my elbow/knee/ankle whatever. No, I haven’t overexerted myself, I don’t appear to be otherwise sick, nor have I injured myself. I just have this weird pain. From out of nowhere – BAM – sore knee, kink in my neck, aching foot. Bothersome to say the least.
Why? Why does this strange phenomenon occur? How can I just all of a sudden have a sore knee? Why do I wake up with pain in my jaw? How come my big toe hurts? And why is it a new spot every day? Is there a little pain worm inching its way along my nerve endings while I sleep coming to rest in some new body part when the alarm goes off?
What gives? And, why did I doubt my mother? (Because I was a horrible, ungrateful kid perhaps?)
How about you – do you find yourself suffering from out-of-the-blue aches and pains? Do you try to figure out why you have the pain? When you were a kid, did your parents complain about having pains? What’s your solution to this madness? Aching aging joints and limbs want to know.
Word of the day: Xerophilous
Fun fact about me: I’m one of the very few who’s never watched an episode of Game of Thrones.

More & more I find that I never know where I am going to hurt! I always blame it on having RA but some how now I believe it is miles on the bones! Enjoyed the read! Yes, my mom was right also!!

Exactly, Joelyn, I wake up and wonder, “where’s it going to hurt today?” I know it’ll be somewhere. Usually it’s my feet and legs, but sometimes a new area of concern will flare up for a few days. It’s just so weird. Aging pains I guess.
Thanks for stopping by. Always good to see your beautiful smile.

I call it…getting older. 🙂 I’m the same way. I’ll wake up after a day of doing nothing strenuous and either my back or my neck or my shoulders are hurting. It’s not fair! And the motherly advice I’d give to my daughter whenever she said this: life isn’t fair. Suck it up.

Wow – you’re a mean mom! (laughing over here, cuz that’s exactly what I’d say too.) The weird pains are annoying but at least if I’m feeling pain, I’m alive right? I don’t want the alternative.
Thanks for visiting and aging right along with the rest of us. Some day – when we’re old – we’ll look back on this an laugh.
Have a great week.

My dad always warned me about getting old – I didn’t believe him. My knees are shot and I can’t catch the dog if she runs away, fortunately she’s getting older and doesn’t run as much either. I have aches and pains, but nothing that a beer or a shot can’t cure. Hang in there – it gets better!

Clay, that’s what everyone seems to have in common – no matter what race, ethnicity, social class, political affiliation or sexual persuasion – we are all getting older. We must all go down the path to our golden years. How we choose to embrace it is up to us, but down we must go.
I’m with you on the beer and/or shot as a temporary cure. I say, whatever works. I am truly blessed and grateful to be alive even if that means living with a little bit of unexplainable pain.
Have a great week! Almost time to head back to the school room for you my friend.

You know how it is when the warranty runs out, everything starts breaking down!

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. I hadn’t looked at it that way before, but I think you’re right. Should have invested in the extended warranty. Next time I’ll know.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week!

I can relate! I’ve had a pain in my neck for years. I finally realized I tighten up my left shoulder constantly. Left! It must feel left out of the right-handed fun.

Isn’t it strange how everything in the human body is connected and one part will directly affect another part that we think is totally unrelated? I find that fascinating.
Take care of that shoulder.
Thanks for dropping in today. Always good to see you.

You all check in with me when you get to be 74 and let me hear about the pains. Yes, they’re ever-present to some extent or another. Usually daytime isn’t bad, but at night I can’t sleep on my back or tummy for very long, and when I sleep on my side, that shoulder with start hurting after while. I won’t even mention nasal stoppage during the night. Oops! I mentioned it. Oh, well.
By the way, I think I might be Xerophilous. I love being in West Texas, where it’s usually pretty dry. Unfortunately, I live in Fort Worth, where the humidity is oppressive.

So what you’re saying is stop whining until I’m your age? You sound like my mother. I’m not sure what’s up with the aging pains, but everybody seems to experience them in some form.
Thanks for stopping by with your Xerophilous comment. I love that people actually take the time to look up my words!
Have a great week.
