Most of you know that I now live in the South. Being from Northern California, I was used to some harsh weather in the winter, for a short period of time. Usually we’d get some snow, it’d stick around for a few days, then – BAM – we’d be in the 80’s and our two weeks of winter were over.
Here in the South, we get about one week of winter. It’ll get cold, really, really cold, for about a week, then warm back up into the balmy 50’s or 60’s. Snow is a rarity here, but when it does snow, people freak out. You’d think the Apocalypse was nearing. Stores run out of bread and milk (why always bread and milk, I’m not sure but, bread and milk nonetheless), and schools promptly notify parents to keep their children home. It’s funny really. The snow doesn’t even have to stick on the ground for these emergency plans to go into effect.
But this winter, something happened, the entire south got blanketed with several inches of snow. Real snow, that stuck to the ground and everything. Kids bundled up and built snowmen, families went sledding, the town closed down. You couldn’t stock up on bread and milk if you wanted to, the stores were locked up tighter than Fort Knox. No school. No mail delivery. No garbage pick up. No eateries open for inn guests (that part wasn’t so fun for us). Winter – real winter – had arrived. We rejoiced.
The snow melted, but the cold continued. And continued. And continued. And continued. Pipes froze. Tree limbs snapped. Bridges iced and stayed iced. What the heck is going on with the thermometer? It’s below freezing during the hottest part of the day! Is there no end in sight?
Then I heard of this thing called a bomb cyclone. A what now? That does not sound good at all. The entire East Coast was advised to brace themselves for this phenomena. I looked it up. Words like “arctic blast,” “brutal cold,” “Mammoth winter storm,” kept popping up in my search box. People were posting photos on Facebook of freezing fog, which I’d never heard of before. Niagra Falls was trying to freeze. Niagra Falls people!!!
Minnesota is experiencing something called ice tsunamis. Ice tsunamis? For real. Huge waves of frozen water were encroaching into peoples’ yards from lakes and rivers and such? No freaking way!
And Florida? Sunshine state where everybody goes to retire and escape the cold, got snow. Snow in Florida? Holy heck on Popsicle stick! What the heck is going on?
Meanwhile California is (was) burning up.
So, I ask you readers, who pissed off Mother Nature? And when are we going to warm up?
What’s the weather doing where you’re at? Do you like winter? Do you enjoy a good snowfall? Ever heard of a bomb cyclone or an ice tsunami?
Word of the Day: Thionic
Fun fact about me: Me and Elsa from Arendal could never be friends because, the cold really does bother me anyway.

It’s been very cold here in the Chicago area. We’re sort of used to it, that is not intended to mean we like it, but used to it. Yesterday it warmed up, to freezing or close to freezing and it rained. The rain froze and covered everything in ice. Not fun. I don’t mind the weather, it’s the driving in it that is not fun. It is gonna be a great day – it’s the first day of the second semester and the BEST part of 8th grade. Have a wonderful week and thaw out. Peace.

I’ve heard Chicago can be pretty brutal in the winter. I’m glad you’ve found a way to live with it. I wouldn’t enjoy the ice so much either. We’d get some icy conditions in California too and nobody would heed the advice to stay off the roads But then again, that’s the attitude of most folks in California It’s all about them.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great start to 2nd semester!

Oh my sweet friend, I so miss you. I hope you and the Mr. enjoy your RV. I know you’ve been super busy with the running of 2 restaurants and such, but you need to find some down time as well. Despite the fact that the visit was for a funeral, I do hope you get some quality family time in as well.
Thanks for visiting. Keep on enjoying that warm weather and I’ll see you next time.
Hugs.

We finally got some rain today. The Sierras have a small amount of snowfall. For us this has been a warm and dry winter so far. We spent 2 hours in
the spa on Saturday and got to hot from the sun and not the water.

Stop it. Just stop. You guys are going to hate the dry winter in a few weeks. Another winter with no snow is going to make for another horrible fire season.
I miss your spa.
Thanks for visiting. Enjoy the warm weather.

The southerners may be right – sounds like the apocalypse! Oregon is almost as bad, with people freaking out over a little snow, schools and businesses closing at any sign of a snowflake, but we’ve had freezing fog before. An ice tsunami?! Bomb cyclone?! Might make for some good story fodder, right? I hope your toes start to warm up this week!

Bomb cyclone? I’d never heard of such a thing. Crazy I tell you.
I hope you survive whatever Mother Nature throws at you this winter. Stay warm and dry.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.

Just think, Patricia, if you still lived in California, you could be paying about twice as much for gasoline as you do in Mississippi.
