We’re all familiar with the four traditional seasons and most of us have a favorite. I’m partial to summer, because I like it hot. Spring is beautiful, but too short. Autumn is pretty but often too cool for my liking. I love the long hot summers. I know, I’m a weird-o to some of you, but hey, I’m honest. I like it hot.
However, there are really more than the four traditional seasons. Let’s face it, we’ve all used the term “season” when referring to some time period other than a couple of months on the calendar. For instance, there’s the ever popular holiday season, the harvest season, tax season, hunting season, football season (baseball, basketball, etc), hurricane season, and so on. How often have we tried to acquire some produce item only to be told, “It’s out of season.” You see? There are seasons for various fruits.
So, I’m willing to take this a step further even. There’s cherry season, plum season, peach season, watermelon season, etc. And, based on where I live here in Mississippi, there is the pageant season (huge here in the south), Mardi Gras season, deer season, duck season, alligator season (yes, all different times of the year when you can legally hunt these creatures), crawfish season, pilgrimage season, azalea season, and many others.
I’d argue that we have a spring break season (because spring break seems to go on forever these days), graduation season (when combined with father’s day, which it usually is, it’s grads and dads season), back-to-school season, television re-runs season, and my favorite – tourist season.
We live in a world full of seasons. No matter what you enjoy doing, or watching on television, or eating, or growing, there is a season for it.
And so my friends, tis always the season. What’s your favorite season? What do you think should have its own season? Are there any local seasons in your area?

Fun fact about me: My favorite thing about the harvest season is wine!

I have multiple favorite seasons. Spring because that’s planting flowers season. Summer because I can walk around barefoot in the grass and forget all about my winter coat and boots. And fall, because I’m a fall baby and everything starts slowing down in the fall as we prepare for our long winter nap, so it’s very peaceful.

I’m kind of with you Sheila on liking most seasons, because they all have their own unique charm. But, overall, it’s summer I enjoy the most. Sandals and pedicures are things I look forward to. Although I do love soft cozy socks in the winter, too.
I like how you liken fall to the slowing down season. I guess that’s a good way to look at it. Things are getting ready to hibernate for the winter so we can enjoy rebirth in the spring. Nice analogy.
Thanks for visiting. Have a lovely almost-spring season!

The only season I’m not particularly fond of is winter…a couple snow days, and I’m ready for spring. And I love cherry and watermelon season. I think Halloween should be an entire season, too. 🙂

Watermelon is a favorite of mine as well. It’s so refreshing on a hot summer day. I enjoy spring fruits as well, but only if they’re well ripened. I don’t like crunchy sour peaches, but when they’re ripe and juicy – delish!!
And, Halloween should definitely be it’s own season, especially at Disney World. Halloween goes on forever there and the decorations and parades are simply the best ever. So, here’s to the Halloween season!
Have a great week my friend.

Hi.
Every season is unique. And is a season for everything under the sky and above the sea. I love the season changes, especially at the north/east New York City. However the winter is getting brutally cold and windy, not to mention when the snow arrive. Which is beautiful seeing the snow flakes falling down, but still getting too cold.
What get my attention from your post is how you bring across about all the other seasonal things that happens during the year. The flowers, fruits, sports, hunting and so on. Thank you for remind us about all this other seasonal happenings around.
Is true the Harvest is a beautiful season, and I love it.
Getting back to the cold winters, is on my mind to begin snow birding for the next year down to Florida, and who knows, by exploring new neighborhoods by the beach, hey I might like it there. I love the ocean.
Thank you for your post. Keep in coming.
Namaste.

Good thing you like summer, living in Mississippi! My favorite season is spring, but I like summer and fall too. Just not winter.
There is also a wedding season, which can get really expensive for twenty- and early-thirty-somethings! Glad I’m past that. It’s enough to tempt one to become a yegg. 🙂

I thought about the wedding season, Jennette, but it seems like more and more these days people just get married whenever. Even though I’m not a fan of winter, I’ve always thought a winter wedding in a snow covered area would be lovely with twinkle lights and a sleigh ride and roaring fires inside a rustic cabin. Must be the romance writer in me coming out.
Thanks for visiting and, if you do decide to become a yegg, let me know. I’d like to say I know a yegg.
