I know I’m getting older and my memory isn’t what it used to be. But, I try to be careful in my daily dealings. I’m not inclined to forget things if I write them down, but it still happens. I’m a list maker so I don’t forget to accomplish certain chores that must get done. And I’m not one to lose things.
I’m one of those people who tends to put things back as soon as I finish using them and I always put them back in the exactly the same place so I can easily find them the next time I need them. It drives me bonkers when someone puts something away in the “wrong” place.
Last week I was victim of a horrible loss. I searched for hours for something I was sure I had. I knew I had it. I saw it. It was there. Then one day – just – BAM – couldn’t find it. Gone without a trace. I searched and searched to no avail. It caused much angst and frustration. And swearing.
Someone sent me an e-mail with a very important attachment. That e-mail was part 1 of 2 and I hadn’t received part 2 so I just kept it in my e-mail inbox. For a couple of weeks it sat there while I waited for the second part to arrive (also by e-mail). Finally, I received part 2. Eager to get to work on the completed project, I sat down and scrolled through my inbox to start with the first part. It wasn’t there. Gone. Nowhere in my inbox.
I did a search. Nothing. I opened every single folder I created. Nothing. I opened spam and trash and sent and drafts. Nothing. Where in the world did that e-mail go? I saw it every day for a couple of weeks. I know it was there. I searched my recycle bin on my computer. Nothing.
Here’s an even weirder fact about this project: When I originally sent my e-mail (with the same attachment) to someone, she could not open it. I re-sent it in another format. Same thing. I finally diagnosed the problem and sent it again. Eureka! We were in business. When she sent it back, after making changes, I just left it in the in-box until I got the final version.
Why is it that certain projects just seem cursed? What is it about this document that is giving us both fits? And, where did it magically disappear to on my end? Have I done something for which I deserve a smack down of karma? Have I been so very bad? Hmmmm.
Fortunately, the other person still had the original modified version she sent to me a few weeks ago so all is well now, but sheesh, I had a miserable day of computer searching for something that remains missing. Whatever. I guess it’s karma or something. Or maybe I’m just going completely bonkers.
What say you readers – where did that e-mail go? Why is it that some projects just seem doomed to be troublesome? Ever have one of those things that seems destined to give you fits?
Word of the day: Verger
Fun fact about me: Red is my favorite color. Pink is a close second.

In your spam filter? I couldn’t find file one day and searched everywhere. The landscaper had already sent emails so I never checked spam. Because he sent two attachments, it ended up in spam.

Nope, not in spam either. But, I’m pretty sure I know (now) what happened. When the sender sent me the second part – it automatically attached to the first e-mail and attachment. Because when I opened part 2 it was all there. I wish I’d have thought to open the second e-mail a lot sooner than I did. Would have saved me a whole bunch of angst.
I hate computers.
I’m glad you diagnosed your issue as well. Searching is so frustrating. And time-consuming.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great week.

Your situation brought back a horrible memory of mine. I had spent hours critiquing a manuscript for a friend – hours! – and when I finally finished and returned it to her, none of my comments or corrections showed up. Then, I couldn’t find my version anywhere! I wanted to kill something. Seriously. I wound up going through the manuscript again, but it’s hard the second go round because you already know what’s coming, and remembering every detail that you thought was awesome or didn’t quite work…I know the critique wasn’t as thorough. So frustrating!

Oh man, that would have sucked. I am not a real lover of computers; I consider them an necessary evil. So when something like this happens I just want to throw it across the room and scream at the top of my lungs.
I’m sure the critique was as good as you could have made it. Everybody appreciates the effort at least. I know I would have.
Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of your week.

My employer recently upgraded their Outlook, and it changed to threaded messages, so yep, I have had that same thing happen! If it happens at home, that usually means I deleted or moved the email and forgot. Either way, so annoying!
My favorite color is also red. 🙂 My second favorite is black.

I don’t like when computers update but don’t tell you what things are changing. It’s like “surprise” every time you try to do something the way you used to do it. I wish you’d get a list of things to watch out for. (sigh) Technology – good and bad at the same time.
Red is cool! Here’s to the red lovers.

I’ve been known to lose my phone while I was talking on it. Seriously. Looked all over the house before it dawned on me it was in my hand.

Oh man. I’ve done that with my glasses. “Where the heck are my glasses. I can’t go anywhere without them.” Sheesh, talk about feeling like an idiot. But – here’s to the idiots right?
Have a great weekend Mr. Dave.

Searching through my computer for certain items drives me bonkers. Such a waste of time and takes a toll on my nerves. I totally get it. Love your karma meme!

Me and technology don’t get along. I try, but some days are a complete waste of energy when it comes to my computer.
I like the karma meme too.
