Let’s talk about food today shall we? Here in the south people like to fry stuff. My husband and I often joke that if someone fried shoelaces, people would eat them. If you go to a restaurant and you want shrimp or chicken on your salad you MUST specify that you want it grilled NOT fried, because otherwise, you’re getting the fried version. And every restaurant serves fried chicken and fried catfish. Every. Single. One. Fried chicken. Fried catfish.
But, today we’re going to talk about unusual foods. In fact, I think I’m just going to let these quick little videos pretty much sum up today’s blog.
Here’s another one.
So, what do you think? Want to try some cheese fudge?
And here’s 3 yummy treats in one video.
Now, I must confess, I’d eat that Twix salad but that cocktail? No way, no sirree. No way Jose. No way, no how. And, don’t even get me started on mayonnaise ice cream.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve tried? Have you ever seen any bizarre menu items when you go out? Do you enjoy everything fried?
Word of the day: Xenobiology
Fun fact about me: I love mayonnaise but I’d never eat mayonnaise ice cream.

Ew, no. None of those. When it comes to food, I’m wimpy. The weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten…my cousins in Nebraska once tricked me into trying Rocky Mountain Oysters. I didn’t think they were too terrible (if a bit chewy), until I found out what they were. Never trust Nebraska cousins, all I’m sayin’.

And that is something I would NEVER even try and I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to food. I’ve had alligator and other exotic stuff but that part of the animal I am not interested in trying thank you very much.
I shall be wary of the Nebraska cousins. Thanks for the tip.

I frequently see bizarre items on menus, such as fish. I sometimes see people eating bizarre food, like steak that’s not even red in the middle. I usually stick to things I know I like and restaurants I know I like, unless I’m out of town.

You sound like my husband. He’s a hamburger and pizza kind of guy. Nothing exotic or out of the ordinary for him.
Thanks for stopping by. Have an ordinary week my friend.

For the most part, I’m not too adventurous with food, though we did try shark fin (I think?) dumplings in China. I don’t remember it, so it didn’t make much of an impression on me. I’ll pass on ketchup cake and your other examples!

Shark fin dumplings sounds like something you’d get in China. I’d probably try that. I tried eel once – hated it! Yucky.
I’m going to pass on the ketchup cake too, especially with mustard frosting. Sounds disgusting.
Thanks for visiting and sharing your foodie experience.

I am adventurous…. though I am reasonable certain I’d NEVER try ketchup cake with mustard icing…. seems like an awful waste of eggs, butter, and flour. I have eaten some very odd things including tripe and I ate the entire dish…. that is a long story. I enjoy fried chicken and fried catfish, but not every day. Everything in moderation.

I agree – everything in moderation. And it’s a big fat no for me on the ketchup and mustard cake. An even bigger no on the mayonnaise ice cream. Fried pickles are big down here in the south as well, but I do not like them. Pickles are perfect just the way they are don’t mess with them.
Thanks for sharing your food story. I’m glad some people are willing to try things. Not all are.
Have a great week. Kids go back to school today here in Vicksburg.

Down to nine more for me and 2 weeks for my students. Make every day count. Enjoy your week and the fried catfish!

This guy’s videos are hilarious! Oh, my, that ketchup and mustard cake has got to be a joke! Now I’ve eaten some strange things, for example, garlic ice cream, but I draw the line on these things right here!

Isn’t he a hoot? I saw him once on the Ellen Show and I thought he was hilarious. I’ve since found his YouTube videos and every once in a while I’ll watch some just for kicks and jollies.
Garlic ice cream? No thank you. That’s on the same big-fat-no-list as the mayonnaise ice cream. Why ruin ice cream?
Thanks for sharing. So glad to see you.
