I’ve had a hard couple of weeks. Some of you know, my super sweet, almost 15-year-old Labrador Retriever, Sherlock, had to be put to rest on the 11th of October. It was one of the hardest days of my life. I’ve never had to make THAT decision before. Here’s a picture of him in his glory days.

But, I know we did the right thing. A few days earlier we found out that he had at least one tumor. We tried some new medicine but by Thursday it was obvious that our poor boy had given up. He was a trooper right up to the end, but you could tell – he’d given us all the signs we needed. RIP my sweet, sweet boy. We miss you terribly.
The house has been so quiet and empty and lonely ever since.
Then, I was the scheduled speaker for one of the writers’ groups I belong to on the 20th of October. On the 19th I awoke with a sore throat, body aches and general malaise. I suffered through, but I sure wished I’d have felt better for my very first speaking engagement as a published author.
The week after that was my very first book signing. It was a dreary rainy night and only a handful of people showed up and I still wasn’t feeling quite up to par. I think it’s mostly depression and angst about losing my boy, but whatever it is, it’s yucky.
Anyway, enough of the Debbie Downer attitude. In an effort to cheer myself up, I’ve been watching some funny YouTube videos. This one in particular made me smile. I hope it brings a bit of sunshine to your Monday. Enjoy!
What say you readers – how do you cheer yourself up? Any suggestions for chasing away the gloomies? Ever had to lay a pet to rest?

Fun fact about me: I agree with Jodi in the video. Men are like cats.

You have my utmost sympathy. Having a pet euthanized is both heartbreaking and one of the hardest things we, as pet owners, have to do. It’s a process I’ve been through countless times and it never gets easier. Hugs to you as you walk through the grieving/healing process.

Thanks for your kind words Isabella. I lost another dog quite a while ago but he passed away on his own so it wasn’t quite as hard as making the decision. Still hard because they become such an integral part of our lives.
Thanks for stopping by with your support. It means a lot. Have a great week.

Everyone that ever owned a pet is crying in their heart for you. We lost our yellow lab in the not too distant past. But the memory of her is still comforting.
That gal is funny, funny! Got to go now, I think I’m about to cough up a hairball.

Thanks for your kind words Al. I know that losing a pet is very hard no matter how they leave us. So funny how animals become like family in just a matter of a few minutes. My Sherlock was one of the best. Well, you know that, you had a lab, too. They are just such awesome dogs.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It made me smile. And, I hope you have a dog to clean up the hairball.
Have a great week.

So sorry about your sweet furbaby. We had to put one down a few years ago due to aggressive bone cancer. He wasn’t quite 7, so that was a really tough one. Hope you’re feeling better now, and congrats on the book being out!

Thanks Jennette. We knew that “some day” we’d have to say goodbye to our boy, but when “some day” came we weren’t really ready. It needed to be done because it became apparent that he was suffering, but it sure was hard.
Thanks for your kind words. It’s always nice to know that others care about such losses. It’s never easy that’s for sure.
Have a great week.
