I don’t know about you, but I love to eat. I like all kinds of food and I like to try new foods. I know there are a lot of people, some of my readers included, who are basically burgers and pizza kind of people, but I’m adventurous when it comes to trying food. Oh sure, I like meat and potatoes as much as the next guy, but I also like to try stuff. Within reason. Some things I’m pretty sure I won’t eat.
That’s why buffets are so great. You can try stuff without ordering an entire meal and then not liking it. At a buffet, if you don’t like it, just go get something else. Buffets are also great if you are dining with a bunch of people and everyone wants something different. Go to the buffet. Most everyone will find something they like on the buffet.
But, buffets have their drawbacks too. Overeating for example. I always eat too much at the buffet restaurants. Always. I just can’t help myself when there’s no portion control. I always walk in resolved to just eat until I’m full, but something happens when I see all that food under the glass domes. My brain just stops working and my taste buds take over. Buffets are dangerous, people. Proceed with caution. If one of your new years resolutions includes losing weight, might I suggest you avoid the buffets altogether?
Here’s a funny video by John Pinette about buffet eating. I laughed out loud. I hope you do as well. Enjoy!
Happy eating my friends.
(FYI – since this video was made Mr. Pinette passed away. Such a tragic loss. He was funny without pushing a political agenda, cussing up a storm, or offending anyone.)
Do you enjoy buffet-style restaurants? How about adventurous eating – try anything new lately?
Word of the day: Quahog (no that’s not what you become after a meal at a buffet.)
Fun fact about me: As much as I enjoy buffets, I can still stay away from the desserts. They’re usually better looking than they are tasting. Not sure why that is.

Never having watched Seinfeld, I didn’t know who John Pinette was, but I loved the video. The ME said he had liver and heart disease. I’m sure his size was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with his death.
The first buffet I ever saw was when I was in college. They used to call them smorgasbords, and when several of us would show up there, the manager would cringe and go hide. They strongly preferred little old ladies over college age guys.
In recent years, I’ve had to train myself to temper things a little at buffets, and as I’ve lost weight my appetite has diminished to the point I’m probably more like those little old ladies they prefer. But I’m healthier than I used to be.
Since I don’t do seafood -except for shrimp and deviled crab – I’m not likely to taste Quahog. I’ll let you have my share, Patricia. I could be perfectly happy eating nothing but rib-eye steaks, baked potatoes and salad. Not real big on trying new stuff unless it looks REALLY tempting.
Have a Merry Christmas, Patricia.

My first ever “buffet” was also a smorgasbord – Sam’s Hofbrau. (I guess buffet was easier to say and spell huh?) I used to love going to the Hofbrau.
I too have tempered things a little bit as I’ve aged. I like the variety at buffets but I just can’t eat enough to justify the price most times. And, when anyone is watching their waistline – myself included – we should avoid eating out period. I find that I eat healthier and smaller portions when I do my own cooking. It also saves money. Triple bonus!
Thanks for visiting. You have a nice holiday as well David.

Whenever we go to Reno, our motto is “whatever happens at the casino, you always win at the buffet.” There’s a Chinese food buffet in town that’s really good, and I always overeat there. There’s just so many different things that are all so tasty. How can I resist it all, right? I think that’s the magic of buffets: it destroys all willpower by dazzling the senses with too much variety. 🙂 I plan to avoid them as much as possible next year!

We have a Chinese buffet here as well. I think it’s good, my husband hates it. Given his aversion to the restaurant we/I rarely eat there. I guess that’s not such a bad thing.
We also feel like winners at the casino buffets. No losers at the buffets. Be careful my friend. Indulge with caution.

And here I thought Quahog was just the town where Family Guy lives…
I like buffets when the food is good. But a lot of times, it seems like all that variety comes at the cost of quality. So whether I eat at the buffet, or order from the menu – depends on the place!

I tend to agree with you about the quality of the food. I am usually able to find at least 1 or 2 things that are good and the rest is just okay. But, that’s the beauty of the buffet; if you don’t like it, go get something else. Usually the carving stations are the best bet. And the salad bars. I love salad bars.
Thanks for stopping by. Be careful out there in the land of eating out.

We are opposites. I lose money on all-you-can eat buffets. First of all, I am a picky eater and would only ingest about 1/4 of the items offered and secondly, I eat small portions and never seconds. However, I do make up for it at the dessert section. Did you know that if you balance them carefully, you can carry 10 small plates of chocolate cream pie on you arms?

I knew you were the burgers and pizza kind of guy I mentioned in the post, but hey, you might have need for a buffet some day. Just skip the hot food section and go straight to the dessert station. You can have my share, as I’m not a dessert eater.
I’m pretty sure YOU could carry 10 small plates of chocolate cream pie on your arms, but I know for a fact that I cannot. Waitressing was never my thing. I would like to see proof, however, of your pie carrying feat. Come on – put your money where your mouth is buddy.
Thanks for visiting today. Have a fantastic, plain old boring food week.

Pinette is a hoot. He made me laugh out loud all through his routine. So sad that he passed away.
I love buffets but they don’t love me. I have too many food sensitivities so it’s hard to eat out, but I love to try new foods, especially spicy foods. I love sushi, but if it’s farmed fish, it’s full of toxins. My favorite organic sushi restaurant changed hands, and the difference in the taste of the food is drastic. Darn!
Wishing you guys a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year. Cheers!

Thanks Lynn. I also like sushi but it has to be very fresh. You can notice the difference. Fortunately, I have no food sensitivities. Or maybe unfortunately, depending on how you want to look at it. Ha.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well and lots of prayers for continued good health for both of our families in 2019.
