Times they are a changin’ my friends. I can’t tell you how often I’ve had conversations with people about how things were so different when we were kids. I’m sure this is nothing new. I’m sure my parents probably had these same conversations with their friends and I’m pretty sure the next generation will have these conversations with their friends. And so on.
I’m not really sure how or when it happened by everybody seems to be so hyper-aware of words and expressions that nobody ever used to give any notice to. We all have to be so careful now about how we word things so that we don’t offend anybody. I don’t remember this being a slow-growing trend that’s happened over the course of time. It seems to me like it just suddenly happened. Bam! One day everything is okay, the next, it’s not.
I know I’m not the most in-touch person with the goings-on in the world, but I do try to stay abreast of certain things. And, being an inn owner, I have to be extra careful not to offend anyone, especially since we get so many foreign travelers. I have no idea what might be offensive to some of these folks. Every day common American sayings might be off-putting to someone from another country.
But, I’m not really interested in getting into a conversation about political correctness. I’m really just interested in pointing out that, people are different and that’s okay. One person’s “weird” might be someone else’s totally cool. My oddball tics might be considered cute by people who don’t have to live with me. We all have those things that we do or say that might drive some people crazy. Other people with similar traits would be considered your tribe.
And, getting back to the innkeeping issue, I see some pretty – um – weird stuff. At least it’s weird to me. Here’s a video that someone created and posted on Facebook about the different types of personalities who stay in hotels. It’s specifically for promoting tourism in Vicksburg, but I found it amusing. I hope you do to. And, please keep in mind that, if you are one of these people, I’m not passing judgment, I’m applauding your uniqueness.
So, which guest are you? What odd trait should be added to this list?
Thanks for visiting today. Keep on being you readers. Without diversity, this world would be a very boring place.
Word of the Day: Wantage
Fun fact about me: I also take home the little bottles, but only the lotion because they fit so nicely in my purse.

Then there are the normal visitors like myself. Hope I get to visit some day.
P.S. Are your rooms big enough for my treadmill? It’s pretty noisy so a corner room would be best.

Normal? Riiight. (wink)
I hope you get to visit some day too. I’d love to see you. And, if you want to lug that treadmill up the stairs you are more than welcome to do that, noise be damned. It is, after all, YOUR vacation and who the heck cares about anybody else in the house.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great week.

I take the lotion bottles too…and Jack takes everything else! Seriously, how many little bottles of shampoo and tiny bars of soap do we need? I’m usually the guest who has the noisy neighbor, or our room is close to the elevator so you hear everyone coming and going and since I’m a light sleeper, that doesn’t help. So, I guess I’m more of a vacation victim than anything. 🙂

Yeah, I don’t sleep well either. It takes me forever to go to sleep and then I wake up at every little noise. Elevators and hall traffic are the worst in hotels.
I’ve never thought of myself as a vacation victim though. That’s an interesting perspective.
Thanks for visiting today. Have a great week.

That video is hilarious! I’m the guest whose key card never works. I just recently learned it’s probably because my purse has changeable covers that attach to it with magnets, and those probably kill the cards’ strips. Oh, and DH and I also bring our pillows, but that’s because we don’t like the ones at the Red Roof.
I haven’t blogged lately because my brain is full of all the wantage in my new house…

Jennette, I often have trouble with key cards as well. Usually I put them in the slot the wrong way. User error. I do think the magnetic closures on the purse might have something to do with the stripe not working though. Here at the inn we still use good old-fashioned keys. Which people lose. Always something.
I hope the new house is coming along. I can’t wait for more pictures. I know you’re knee-deep in moving preparations and such, but give me something won’t you. I’m excited!!
Have a great week.

I am the guest who forgets to turn the key and has to mail it back! I enjoyed the visit and I am certain you get all kinds of folks visiting. As for the PC stuff, it makes me sad and ill at the same time. I seem to remember the PC movement beginning in the late 80’s and that’s about the time that the political situation became more polarized and folks were more intolerant of differing points of view. That’s when the haters became more vocal and demanding, it’s also about the time period when consumers became more demanding and vocal, too. I think more voices lead to a better world, but I teach 8th grade science and need to remind myself that it only a takes 270 to win and for some 8th graders I am the best part of their day and for others, the worst. So, there you have it 270 to win, 268 to lose. Keep smiling and enjoy your day!

Thanks Clay. A good smile hides a lot doesn’t it? And it goes a long way to diffuse an ugly situation too.
Thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts. Different opinions make for an interesting discussion that’s for sure. As long as nobody gets nasty and is respectful of everyone elses’ opinions, we can all co-exist.
Have a great rest of the week. Won’t be long now before you’re back in the classroom again.
