I’ve had a very long weekend of writing related stuff. Savvy Authors sponsored a 3-day free writing retreat that blew my mind. So many really good presenters, free mini intensive workshops, and great webinars. My brain is so full of new information and practical tips. I feel like a thief getting all of this great information for free.
It’s amazing how much stuff there is to learn about in the great big world. It’s even more amazing how much stuff I thought I was doing right, but, nope, I’m not really doing it the best, most logical way. Weird right? That feels like a crime too.
But, one thing is constant: good writing sells books better than anything else. A writer must know the mechanics of writing and must practice writing to improve their craft. Anything else is – well criminal!
Here’s a little video I found to sum it all up.
How about you writer friends, any criminal writing offenses that you feel need to be purged from the world? And how about you readers, what drives you crazy when you’re reading books that maybe don’t meet your standards? Bad writing. Typos? Inconsistencies?

Fun Fact about me: I HATE this new and “improved” WordPress site. It takes me 3 times as long to draft a post. And where in the heck is the save button?

Sounds like a great conference! That’s one thing I love about fiction writing, there’s always something new to learn. I’m at work, so I’ll have to check the video later, but for WordPress, have you checked out the Classic Editor plugin? It replaces the block editor with the old-style one. Either way, good luck!

Ohhh – I like that! The idea of a “plug-in” scares me a little bit, but I’ll check into it. I’m figuring out the new one but the editing options are weird and twice when I was composing I had to leave the site for a bit and when I returned my work was not saved. Used to be it auto saved every couple of minutes. Thanks for the tip. I’ll see if I can figure that out..
The video is just silly. I think you maybe can relate to it – as a writer.
Have a great rest of the week.

Head hopping drives me crazy! My mom recently insisted I read a book that was written in the ’80s (I think) and the writing style made me want to tear something apart. The concept was slightly intriguing, but not enough to save it from the head hopping, the inane conversation, and the overused exclamation marks!!! Seriously. I’m so thankful for authors who hone their craft and never stop learning.

I’m with you girl. The omniscient POV is hard to read sometimes too.I read across a variety of genres and good writing in any one of them is always apparent. Keep on learning.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing. Have a great rest of the week. Stay out of the fire zone.
