Sometimes it really is the smallest, simplest things that bring the most joy. Call me silly, but I was gifted with a box of old napkins from a woman here locally, and it just brought me so much joy. The lady said she was cleaning out drawers and cabinets from the house of a family member who had passed away and she uncovered dozens and dozens of old linens. Being a single lady herself, she had no use for that many napkins so she asked me if I could use them here at the inn.
Are you kidding me? Of course, I can use them. I’m frequently replacing soft goods because they just don’t hold up after hundreds of washings. And I LOVE to set a pretty table. And some of these linens are downright gorgeous. I love antique linens.
I don’t know if the guests think so, but I think it makes the whole B&B experience a little bit more classy sitting down at a well-set table with China dishes, crystal glasses, charger plates, and linen napkins. Not just plain ole linen napkins folded into squares either. No sir, I’m talking about fancy linen napkins rolled and twisted into pretty shapes that add that extra touch of elegance. It’s actually easier to do than it looks. Here’s a step-by-step guide if you want to give it a try.
Throw in a nice centerpiece, some candles and soft background music and you have yourselves a world-class breakfast experience. How many people do you know who eat off their crystal and China dishes for breakfast?
Of course, the food has to be good too. I mean, what good is a fancy table if the food sucks right? And here’s where we really excel. I’m going to brag a little, because it’s true, we truly do serve the best breakfast in town. Now, that being said, the only breakfast options are Waffle House and Cracker Barrel so it’s not too hard to beat those guys, but I do believe our breakfasts are pretty darned good. Don’t believe me? Read the reviews. Or, better yet, come find out for yourselves.
So, that’s it for today’s session. Little unexpected gifts that truly brightened my day and will bring a smile to my face every time I set the table.

Yes they are. The napkins were from Joyce. I know she likes to give things to people that they can use. I really appreciated having them.
Thanks for visiting today. Enjoy this cooler weather!

That was so nice of her to think of you rather than trashing all those napkins or taking them to the local thrift store. I bet no one else would appreciate them as much as you do! I might have to try some fancy napkin folding for Thanksgiving now. 🙂

I know right? It was so thoughtful of her to think of me. She could have taken the entire box to the thrift store. After I washed them all up (there must be about 60 napkins) and ironed them, I came out with some really nice stuff. Two of them were sets of 12, which is just about perfect for a busy weekend breakfast.
I think you should definitely try some napkin folding for the holidays. It’ll impress your family to no end. You have to post a picture though.
Have a great week!

That was an extraordinary gesture on her part. Though I don’t know you personally, from corresponding with you I’m not a bit surprised you do things up right for your guests.
By the way, I would never call you silly, just like I would never call you Shirley.

You can call me silly. Shirley? No.
Thanks for your kind words. I probably go a bit overboard on the elegance of the table setting, but every morning when I see the dining room all spruced up for no reason at all, it makes me smile. Again, simple things.
Enjoy the rest of your week. Thanks for stopping by.
