Some of you already know that my family has grown by three. Last week we adopted three new kitties from our local humane society. We would have taken the entire lot home, but alas, three was all we could comfortably be responsible for. It’s so tough when you visit animal shelters because you want to rescue everything there. But the reality is, three cats in one confirmed space is the perfect amount of cats. Plus there is the added costs of properly caring for them, which greatly hinders one’s decision when adopting.
Why did we get these new babies? Well, it’s a sad story really. But, one with a happy ending because – well – we have babies now. You see, a few weeks ago we were traveling. It was a vacation for the record books and not necessarily in a good way. Just about everything went wrong. But the absolute worst day was our last day of travel; the day we spent waiting for 10 hours at the Seattle/Tacoma airport for our flight home.
While we were crouched in our faux leather chairs at our gate – 10 hours early – we logged on to the internet to get caught up on some emails, social media posts, and general world news. That’s when we received an email from the person taking care of our house and pets while we were away. The “heads up” email that when we arrived home our sweet little boy would not be greeting us as he had suddenly and mysteriously passed away. Nobody wants to get that email in a public place. It was ugly. We had to ugly cry in public.
Anyway, when we got home and some of the shock wore off we decided that we really needed to fill that empty place in our hearts. Obviously knowing there was no way we could ever replace our dearly departed, we decided to just go have a look and see what the animal shelters in town had in the way of kittens.
It was not a decision made lightly or quickly. We visited several times over the next three weeks before making our final decision. We set out to get our little bob-tailed boy. Our minds were made up. He was our choice. The one. Then we came home with three. Well, how can you not? If we’d have had a bigger carrier we might have come home with five!!!
Anyway, long story short, we lucked out in the kitty department. After an intense first day of getting to know one another, our three kids have settled into their new life quite nicely. Our bob-tailed boy – Mozart – is a loveable stinker with the most beautiful face.
Our fluffy calico girls – Cosmo and Calypso – start to purr the minute you touch them. And they both LOVE to be held. In fact, Cosmo isn’t happy UNLESS you’re holding her. They are all really sweet kitties. They can all sleep in the same kennel now with no fighting. They all sleep through the night with no whimpering. They all love to run and play.
And, of course, we’ve spent several hundred dollars on all of the necessary cat stuff. Not that the toys or towers matter, they usually play in the empty cardboard box and my laundry hamper. (sigh) But, the kennel and the carrier and the food and litter are all used and appreciated. Hey, it’s all worth it right?
Are you guys animal rescuers? Have you ever visited your local animal shelter or humane society? What do you think of my new babies? I love them.

Thanks Al. We still miss Fatso every day. He was an amazing cat. My husband jokes that it took 3 new cats to replace him. Ha.
Our 3 new littles are so much fun and – so far – they’re actually pretty good kitties. I expected some long nights when we first brought them home but as soon as we put them in their kennels, they settled right down and went to sleep. Lucky for us.
Thanks for visiting today. Have a wonderful week.

I am with Al, sorry to read about your loss, but excited to learn of your gain. We have dogs and I can’t imagine losing one of them. Glad you found a trio of kitties to keep you in your toes. Stay well. Peace.

Good morning Clay. Losing Fatso affected us both deeply. We’re still having a hard time believing he’s gone. But, having these 3 new little babies is helping. Of course, they also remind us of when Fatso was a baby, but that’s to be expected. And they’re happy memories so it’s all good.
We still haven’t been able to get a new dog. When we lost our Sherlock we decided to be dogless for a bit. We’ve actually been looking at puppies, but haven’t fully committed to that adventure yet. Maybe soon. Stay tuned! Pets are just so fantastic.
Thanks for visiting today and have a fantastic week.

So sorry about Fatso … losing our fur babies is so very hard. Glad you found some cute babies to fill your home with love. They are all so very cute. If you are looking for puppies, I highly recommend looking at Golden Retreivers. They are the sweetest breed and are very smart. Our Sadie has brought so much happiness to our home (except when she digs … and I’m determined to break her of that one).

Thanks Jan. Our sweet Fatso was a one in a million cats for us. But these new babies are adorable, cuddly, and so far, not a hassle at all. Fingers crossed.
We’ve actually been looking at Golden Doodles. I want a smaller breed but Corey doesn’t. He thinks all small dogs are yippers. I’m just concerned about being able to “control” them if I have to. When our Sherlock got really old and needed to be carried sometimes (up the stairs or into the cart) I wasn’t strong enough to do that. Anyway, we will probably get another dog at some point in the future. Right now, we’re up to our eyeballs in kitties.
Thanks for visiting and good luck with Sadie’s bad habit.

A golden doodle would be amazing … and you wouldn’t be having to vacuum every time it walks through the room!! There are various sizes of doodles, so if you can find a breeder that has the smaller ones that would be ideal (albeit quite pricey!). We have had labs, a labradoodle (he was only 42 lbs), and now our sweet golden Sadie (she is by far the best dog ever … even at 75 lbs).

Our Sherlock was like that. He was a pure bred yellow lab that I got from a breeder. He was only about 75 pounds, which is on the small side for a male lab. He lived almost 15 years. We still miss him. Best dog we’ve ever had.

We sure miss our boy but we’re adjusting well to having these new little ones in our lives. They’re quickly becoming part of the family.
Thanks for stopping by today and have a great rest of the week.

I just love seeing the pictures of your new kitties…you’re only a few short of Crazy Cat Lady status now (which is a celebrated and most honorable position, in my humble opinion). I never thought I’d see the day! 🙂 I’m the same way when I go to the Humane Society in that I want to take them all home and smother them with love. I know Fatso will always hold a special place in your heart, but I’m so glad you have some new fur babies to ease the pain.

Thank you my friend. It was so hard choosing because so many needed our love. I honestly thought we were going home with one, but my husband surprised me and said “get the girls too.” He’s actually more of a Crazy Cat Man if you want to know the truth. But, yes, these sweet things have certainly helped keep our minds off the other boy.
Thanks for visiting today. I hope the rest of your week is filled with kitty cuddles as well.

I am so proud of you to be a cat mama. I have been one all my life, they just steal your heart. We support our humane society all the time, I make kitty and doggy quilts for them plus money. I would gather all the cats and bring them home if I had a place for them. We have our 11 and some of ours are getting pretty old we just love them and take care of them. We keep our Vet. well fed.

That’s why I love you my dear friend. You have such big hearts. We were never really cat people until Fatso, but now I guess we’re destined to be cat people forever.
Now, that doesn’t mean we won’t get a puppy some day too. Just not quite ready for that adventure yet.
Lovely to see you here. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
