So, the tree is up! Most of the decorations are in their new home for the next 40 days or so. I’m still in need of about 600 batteries and 72 hours of sleep, but it’s beginning to look, and smell, a lot like Christmas!

On the 14th Day of Christmas

Why does time speed up after Halloween? Seriously, why? Is it just me or are the days flying by? Maybe it’s because there are fewer daylight hours? It’s colder? All I want to do is sleep? I don’t know, but I can’t believe Thanksgiving is Thursday and then – like the day after that – is Christmas.

Meal planning is oft times challenging. Trying to come up with something for dinner for your family night after night can be a chore. I enjoy cooking but not necessarily every single day. I already fix breakfast for inn guests most mornings so a lot of times, by late afternoon, I’m not really interested in cooking again.

Shortly after cruising opened back up for travelers, my husband and I booked a cruise that we’ve always wanted to take. It’s a long one and usually an expensive one. But two things worked in our favor; one, we were still (unfortunately) working with pandemic occupancy at the inn (so essentially no guests), and, two, cruises were being offered for dirt cheap to entice folks to travel the high seas again.

There are so many dishonest people in the world today. So many people with harmful agendas. So many people out to make a buck. I think you’d be somewhat foolish if you weren’t always a little leery of people selling stuff. There are thieves who will take your money and disappear. But I also choose to believe that there are still good people out there too. People who are just trying to make a living. People who come by their money honestly. People who aren’t trying to trick you into buying something they have no intention of delivering.

I’m a Disney fan. Have been since my first trip to Disneyland in early 1970. As a kid, my brother and I would always choose Disneyland as our destination of choice when asked where we wanted to travel during the summer break from school. Sadly, we seldom went. As an adult, I can go, pretty much, whenever I want to. That’s the beauty of being an adult.

I don’t know about you, but I’m so sick of seeing news headlines about professional sports players involved in accidents and being arrested but expecting to get a free pass because of who they are. Nobody is entitled to a get out of jail free card, especially if you’ve actually done something grossly negligent or illegal.

The other day I had a guest experience that I wish I would have handled differently. Hey, sometimes it happens. But you never know UNTIL it happens. And we all know that sometimes all it takes is one person to screw things up for everyone else. Here’s what happened?

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I’m saying it now anyway – I love champagne. It’s one of my favorite beverages. I can drink champagne any time of the day, any day of the week, for any special or non-special occasion. It’s a very versatile beverage. You can drink it straight, mixed with juice, in cocktails or even frozen in a slushie. What’s not to love?
