Some of you already know that my family has grown by three. Last week we adopted three new kitties from our local humane society. We would have taken the entire lot home, but alas, three was all we could comfortably be responsible for. It’s so tough when you visit animal shelters because you want to rescue everything there. But the reality is, three cats in one confirmed space is the perfect amount of cats. Plus there is the added costs of properly caring for them, which greatly hinders one’s decision when adopting.

A while back I blogged about not being able to find anything to watch on TV despite paying $600 a month for streaming services and having over 10,000 channels at our disposal. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little, but you get the drift. Finding a new movie or series sometimes takes some trial and error. Unless you’re looking for a little something to watch just for the fun of it.

I’m a dog person. Always have been. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love dogs. I’m sure they’re out there, but I hope to never meet them. It just doesn’t seem right to not love a dog. Anyway, I never thought I’d be a cat person, but here I am, the proud slave of two black cats. That’s right I’m officially a cat person.

I think by now, most of you know I try to be upbeat and positive whenever possible. I try to find the sunshine on the dreary days and I look for the good among the bad. I’m not gonna lie, this past year has tested my ability to focus on the good. Some days it feels like the hits just keep on coming and not in a good way. But, hopefully things are starting to turn around and the world is heading back toward “normal.”

Some of you probably remember me talking about kittens that were born on our porch back in April. As a brief recap, in case you missed it, we befriended a feral cat who was the offspring of another feral cat who never really accepted us as friends but did tolerate our presence on occasion. As the offspring grew up, we managed to ingratiate ourselves into her life and she became our pet. Well, that little baby ended up pregnant and because she now trusted us, she gave birth to three little kittens right on the welcome mat outside the back door on the porch.

I knew it was going to happen. At some point it was bound to. But, I wasn’t really ready for it to happen quite so quickly. Slowly the country is phasing back into normal operating procedures. We’ve been getting a few more reservations over the past few weeks. But, I don’t know what happened the last three weekends. BAM! Full houses every Friday and Saturday night. Just like that. No warning. The phone kept ringing and the I kept saying “come on.”

anxiety memeSo many people are reeling, angry, and despairing these days. It’s no wonder. We’ve all been thrown into a situation that we’ve never been in before. It’s extremely disorienting, confusing and challenging in many ways. In the face of intense and prolonged stress, this new syndrome has emerged. But don’t despair, there’s a cure and hope. (more…)

focusLike so many other people these days, I’ve had a lot of heavy issues taking up space in my brain. Most are about survival, both physically and economically, and some are about discipline as it relates to staying focused and positive. Trying to be creative right now has certainly been a challenge for me. And avoiding the negative is downright impossible if you spend any time on social media. (more…)

We all have those little things that make us smile no matter how bad our day is going. For me, without fail, when I’m feeling glum, I can think about, or look at, or touch, or smell, any of the things I’ve listed below and know that I will soon feel better. Even for just a few minutes. What are they? I’m glad you asked. As the song goes, these are a few of my favorite things: (more…)
