I think I’ve probably said this before, but I’m saying it again. I enjoy cooking. I never really had time to fix elaborate meals but for the occasional weekend experience when I had time to devote to the project. I especially didn’t cook breakfast, usually opting for a breakfast sandwich behind the wheel of my car on the way to work.

Meal planning is oft times challenging. Trying to come up with something for dinner for your family night after night can be a chore. I enjoy cooking but not necessarily every single day. I already fix breakfast for inn guests most mornings so a lot of times, by late afternoon, I’m not really interested in cooking again.

I think we can all agree that 2020 was not the year any of us expected it to be. Unless the conspiracy theorists are right and somebody did viciously release the coronavirus on purpose, then that person(s) had an epic year. But, it for sure was a pretty crappy year for the majority of the populace.

A few weeks ago, I was in a baking / cooking kind of weird mood. I don’t think I was bored exactly, just looking for a creative outlet other than writing. My hubby and I have been trying to eat sensibly so I thought that if I pre-made some meals, we could have half the portion now and freeze the other half to eat later. It was a good idea and it worked, until I stopped pre-making the meals and we ran out of the frozen stuff. Now it’s back to “what are we going to have for dinner tonight?” (sigh)

Here at the Baer House Inn, I like to set a pretty table. We use china and crystal and cloth napkins for breakfast every day. We try to add special touches for special events. Something about a pretty table makes the meal seem that much better, at least in my humble opinion. (more…)
