So it’s time for another installment of Take It, Or Leave It, and because it’s February, it’s all about the vegetables. What’s the correlation you ask, between February and vegetables? Nothing. That’s just how the congealed mush between the bony places of my head works.
The rules are simple, just post your guesses in the comments section below. I will post the choices on Monday and my responses on Thursday. The person with the most guesses is my winner, but you must re-post in the comments section in order to claim your prize. Unclaimed prizes will be forfeited after one week from posting the answers.
Now put on those guessing caps and let me know whether I’d take or leave the vegetables listed below:
1 – lima beans
2 – asparagus
3 – Brussel sprouts
4 – turnips
5 – beets
6 – parsnips
7 – butternut squash
8 – acorn squash
9 – spaghetti squash
10 – bok choy.
Do you always eat your vegetables? Which ones do you avoid? Come on, I know you all detest at least one of them.
Word of the Day: Zorbonaut
Fun fact about me: I was a very picky eater growing up. (Probably why I was reed thin. My how things change as we age.)

lima beans – um…sure?
asparagus – I happen to love asparagus, but one of my friends calls it the “devil vegetable” – I’ll go with no.
Brussel sprouts – ew. No.
turnips – I could see you munching on a turnip.
beets – gross. I hope not.
parsnips – pretty close to turnips, so I’ll say yes.
butternut squash – squash is good. I bet you like it.
acorn squash – another yes.
spaghetti squash – it doesn’t really taste like spaghetti, but yes.
bok choy – no way.
My totally random guesses, but where are the “normal” veggies like peas and corn and carrots? Are you too good for those more mundane goods from the garden, Patricia?
LikeLike
Peas are nasty, although I do like the sugar snap peas in the pods, but only raw. Cook them babys and I won’t touch them. Corn and carrots are staples at my house along with green beans.
They are rather mundane, however, for my sophisticated palate. (snicker)
Thanks for guessing. We’ll see you Thursday to see how well you did.

Hi, Patricia!
Here are my guesses. You can take them or leave them.
1 – lima beans Take
2 – asparagus Take
3 – Brussel sprouts Take
4 – turnips Leave
5 – beets Leave
6 – parsnips Leave (I guess I just don’t see you as a root vegetable type of person.)
7 – butternut squash Take
8 – acorn squash Take
9 – spaghetti squash Leave
10 – bok choy Take
Personally, I love all of these vegetables except for spaghetti squash. Vegetables should never be stringy. Ugh.

What? Vegetables shouldn’t be stringy? What about string beans or the vein in the pea pods or the silk on ears of corn?
Me not liking root vegetables – hmmm. Potatoes are root vegetables and I love me some spuds.
We’ll see you on Thursday to see how the guessing went for you.

I’m going to guess you’ll leave 1, 3 & 5, and take the rest.
As for me, I’ll also leave the Lima beans and beets. I love butternut squash and -yes- Brussels sprouts! – and I can take the rest. Tops on my Leave list: celery and green peppers!

Oh, I’m so with you on the peppers. I hate any version of the pepper, except ground black. They are nasty.
Another reason to like you.
I hope you’ll stop back on Thursday to see how you did.

Aw, these games you come up with are a hoot! I’m guessing you’d leave the lima beans, brussels sprouts, parsnips, and bok choy.
I don’t like peas but I like split pea soup! I’d rather eat uncooked veggies instead of cooked.
And I can’t leave this site without telling you and Jennette you’re missing out big time by leaving the peppers. Hold yer noses and eat yer peppers. I believe they’re a miracle food, and the hotter, the better. Am out of peppers right now and your post is making me crave them, especially those red bell peppers. Oh, wait, we have a jar of pepperocinis (spelling?), so some nachos topped with those sounds scrumptious! Have a good week!

Don’t listen to her Jennette – peppers are nasty.
I’m with you Lynn on preferring raw veggies to cooked. I don’t like peas or pea soup, but I love snow peas or sugar snap peas in the pods. It’s craziness I tell you.
Anyway, I’m about to post the answers so I hope you’ll be checking back, because you did quite well with your guesses

#1 – lima beans – gross
#2 – asparagus – gross
#3 – Brussel sprouts – really gross
#4 – turnips – yucky
#5 – beets – I will eat beets, prefer them cooked and cold on a salad
#6 – parsnips – I will eat these, but I don’t seek them out
#7 – butternut squash – yummy yummy in the tummy
#8 – acorn squash – barf
#9 – spaghetti squash – delicious
#10 – bok choy – Another one I’ll eat but not often and I prefer the baby variety.
So there you have it.
Here’s how you did:
Suzanne P – 3 correct
Coleen and Lynn – 5 correct
Jennette – 6 correct.
Congratulations Jennette and thank you all for playing. March will bring another round of Patricia’s strange preferences.
Have a great rest of the week!

50% is pretty dang good for someone you’ve never met. We shall have to rectify that some day.

I’m with you on the Brussel sprouts. Ew. I cook them more than I want to though because my hub loves them. Oh and I think being a zorbonaut sounds cool, but i imagine I’d get pretty dizzy! Hope you had a good week, Patricia. 🙂

Thanks for visiting, Coleen. Always nice to see what you’re going to come up with for my word of the day. I’m thinking you’d get quite dizzy if you were a zorbonaut.
See you next time.

Wow, so my comment actually showed up? I got an error message. Planned to come back and try again, but was sick, sick, sick and then busy, busy, busy with family. I love to snack on snap peas! Yum!
