So by now you’re all sick of me talking about Texas so we’re going to give that little outing a rest. It’s time to start focusing on my upcoming cruise. That’s right, in September I’ll be sailing on the deep blue sea, headed north to Alaska.
I don’t know about you, but I love cruising. Only on a cruise can you be in a different port every morning, miles away from where you were yesterday and not have to pack your things and move to a new hotel. On a cruise, your hotel goes with you. Stellar!
Now, I’ve been on several cruises, to several glorious destinations: Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, but this will be my first journey to Alaska. And the bonus? I can check another thing off my bucket list. You see, it’s a goal of mine to visit every state in our great nation before I meet my maker. So far, with the exception of Alaska, I’ve been in every state west of the Mississippi River and all but the far north eastern corner on the east side. I’ve been as far up as Virginia but that’s it. Some day I’ll visit that last corner of the US.
But, I digress. I’m gearing up for my journey north and in so doing, I’ve been doing some on line research. I don’t want to miss any of the important stuff when I’m in port. Whilst surfing the web, I came across this silly video about cruising that made me giggle. I wanted to share it with you. It’s short and hopefully will bring a smile.
And so I leave you with this question: Have you ever danced behind someone without their knowledge? Would you ever? I think I just might have to give this a go when I get on the ship in a few weeks. Stay tuned for my report (and with any luck a video).
Word of the Day: Zaffer (zaffre)
Fun fact about me: I have owned 9 cars in my life; all but the very first one were brand new when I bought them.

I’ve never been on a cruise – I think it would be fun. Nine cars? I’m at eight but five are jointly owned with my wife – does that count? I’ve never been to Alaska either – my younger brother went on a cruise there a couple of years back and had a blast. you will, too. Have a great week, enjoy it to its fullest!

Hi Clay, happy Monday! Yes, nine cars. 1 I wrecked before I even got my license plates – that hurt. The last 2 pretty much drove until they literally fell apart. But, it’s not a race. I happen to put a lot of miles on my car due to a job that requires that I commute so they wear out faster.
I am so looking forward to heading North and cooling off. It’s definitely time for a vacation.
Thanks for stopping by this week. I hope you have a wonderful week as well.

i love all shades of blue, so zaffer is right up my alley! I’ve never been to Alaska (looking forward to your pics!), but it’s on my list. Haven’t danced behind someone either, but I’m not above doing that. 🙂
At first thought, nine cars sounds like a lot, but seeing as we’ve had 3 cars smushed by trees in the last 15 yrs, we’re probably close to that total. lol

Oh, a lover of zaffer? How exciting.
I’m going to do me some dancing behind someone, just because it looks like so much fun. We’ll see if I can get the hubs to take a video. He doesn’t like to play along a lot of times so we’ll see how it goes.
I hope you get to Alaska one day. I’ve been wanting to for a very long time and now, in just a couple of weeks, I’ll be going! Stay tuned for the full report.

Do you mean grinding? Yep. And I’ve been ground by strangers. Have fun on your cruise!

Hi Susie. I’m not sure I mean grinding when I say I’ll be dancing behind someone. I’ll probably do a little shuffling off to buffalo or a time step or two, just cuz I can. We’ll see how it feels when I’m there and in the moment.
I shall report back when I return. Thanks for stopping by today.

Nope, I’ve never danced behind someone. Should I add that to my bucket list? Have fun on your cruise. Definitely zipline in Skagway, if you stop there.

Hi Suzanne. We are stopping in Skagway and have ziplining on the agenda. I’m not sure which port we’ll be doing that but we are going to try the zipline thing. We’re also going to go horseback riding in one of the ports, too, but I can’t remember which one right now. The details will be posted soon.
Thanks for stopping by. And yes, you should add dancing behind someone to your bucket list.

Zaffer! I was hoping the word was something I could actually use somewhere (since it’s so fun to say), but not sure how I could work that in to every day conversation. Have a great trip to AK (my lil’ sis lives there)! And yes, I’ve danced behind someone and have also been a victim of being danced behind. Maybe it was karma…

Hi CJ. You mean you wouldn’t be able to get yourself some new zaffer Christmas ornaments or maybe add a little zaffer to your kitchen somewhere? Hmmm. You’re not trying hard enough my friend. But then again, it is Monday morning.
Where in Alaska does your sister live? Perhaps I’ll run into her. I wouldn’t do it on purpose of course, that would be rude, but with all the ziplining and horseback riding I’ll be doing, no telling what kind of freakish accident might cause our paths to collide.
I like that you’ve been danced behinded (behinded?) and that you danced behind someone. I don’t know why I’ve never done this fantastic activity in the past. It’s definitely right up my alley. Another reason we were meant to be friends.
Have a great week!

Yep. My brain doesn’t function right on Mondays. If you stop near Manley Hot Springs, just yell “Cathy!” and I’m sure she’ll come running. Unless it’s during school hours. Teaching would probably take priority over meeting strange tourists wearing sequins. Very jealous that you’re going ziplining – which happens to make my bucket list (bungee jumping too!).

Thanks Jennette, I’m getting very excited! Every picture I’ve seen is more breath-taking than the last. And I am so ready for some cooler weather. Not to mention that dancing behind people; I can’t wait to try that.
As always, thanks for your support.

I have TOTALLY danced behind people! It’s a riskless thrill and too darn funny to pass up. Have you seen the videos that Ellen has people send into her show of people dancing behind folks that have no clue? It’s hilarious. I wish you many happy one-sided dances, Patricia. And do try to get some video. 😉

Are you dancer behinder? I love that. I want to join this elite group, especially if it’s a hit with Ellen. I haven’t seen any of her footage with that particular “prank.” but I so love her.
I will do my best to coax my husband into videoing this activity. Sometimes he’s a fuddy-duddy, but I’ll try.
Thanks for stopping by Jessica.

So you’re a veteran “cruiser,” eh? How cool! And Alaska sounds terrific. Hubs and I just celebrated our 25 year anniversary last week, and we plan to take an Alaskan cruise next year for the occasion (this year wasn’t going to work, for various reasons). Haven’t gotten around to researching and booking it yet…will have to get all the great deets about your experience once you’re back. 😉
Have a wonderful time!

Hi Jean and thanks for stopping by. I can totally see you dancing behind someone and I’ll bet your photobomb was cute. I’m not really a photo bomber, but . . . who knows.
I am definitely packing warm clothes for my cruise. And waterproof jackets and shoes. I want to get out there and experience all of the wonders.

Wait, Patricia! Some of us think there’s no such thing as too much talking about Texas. Seriously, though, I loved the video and can’t wait to hear about your cruise. Ziplining! Yay, you!

I wish everyone felt the same way as you about Texas Pat, but alas, I felt the need to show some love to the other great states in this wonderful nation. I’ll get back to Texas I’m sure. Stay tuned.
I am so looking forward to ziplining. I’ve wanted to do it for the last several cruises, but my hubby could not be tempted to try it and we always do our land excursions together. This time I told him I was doing it whether he wanted to join me was up to him. Guess what? We’re ziplining!!
Thanks for swinging by my Texas friend. I hope things have cooled off a little for you.l

Wow, I’m excited for you to go on that cruise! I’ve never been on a cruise ship. Someday! The video is a riot! Now, why didn’t I think of that? Oh, that’s right, because I’ve never been on a cruise before. That darn guy beat me to it! 🙂

Lynn you don’t have to be on a cruise ship to dance behind someone. I’ve not ever thought of it either, but I think I’m going to give it a try in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned for video footage.
