As you Californians know, it’s been HOT!
My husband and I bought our current home almost exactly one year ago today. The house is old, quirky, and needs some upgrading. One of the things that needs upgrading, is the air conditioning. Well, not upgrading exactly, installing. That’s right, we have no air conditioning. It’s been well over 100 degrees for several days in a row. Talk about a melt down.
Normally the heat doesn’t bother me so much, especially since I work in a nice air conditioned office building most days from nine to five and to get there I drive a new car with an awesome cooling system. But, given the recent holiday, I was lucky enough to have four days off in a row. That’s right, four whole days to WRITE! I was overjoyed. Until I actually sat down in my sweltering home office and turned on my laptop.
After four very long days of writing in a sweat box, I am proud to say that I got about 12,000 new words on my WIP (work in progress) and managed to get this blog thrown together to boot. Since I didn’t have a lot of creativity left by Sunday evening, I decided to take a more light-hearted approach to this latest post.
I needed a good laugh at the end of this miserable binge writing session and this is what I found. It’s kind of long, but it’s really funny. I dare you not to laugh. Enjoy!

Tell me, what do/did you do to beat the heat? Did you do anything unusual or exciting for the 4th? Inquiring minds want to know. P.S. WordPress has found it “necessary” to include an ad video at the end of this post. Sorry for that inconvenience.
Word of the day:Β Cacomistle
Fun fact about me: One of my favorite breakfast foods is an egg McMuffin

Writing indoors without a/c in the middle of the summer? I’m impressed! You might consider a Cacomistle as a new family pet–they seem to love tropical weather! π

Yes – it has been a little like living in a sweat lodge, but I got throught it. Finally cooler weather is on its way.
And I’m not sure cacomistles make good pets, but the fact that they love tropical weather is reason enough to want one.
Thanks for stopping by so early on a Monday.

I’m so sorry you had a meltdown! Come out to SoCal, it’s cool here (about 70ΒΊ) and not a lot of sunshine. Believe it or not, there isn’t always sun in San Diego! We were terribly boring for the 4th. My aging Jack Russell does NOT like the fireworks, so I stayed home to keep her calm. That’s not easy to do… Xanax, Thundershirt, swaddling, burrowing, and lots of tight hugs for the poor dear. The Aussie? He wanted to be out partying and seeing the pretty lights. Sigh, me too. π
So, I’ve learned a new word and had a good chuckle all before 8:30am! Whooot! This is going to be a great week. I love those Ellen hidden camera things. They are so uncomfortable to watch, but hilarious.
I hope you get your A/C soon! More words are dying to be written and you should be comfortable when you are writing. Right?

Oh Tameri, how I would love to come down to San Diego and cool off. Thankfully the temps dropped about 10-15 degrees on Saturday night so it’s much more bearable now. it was just so disappointing to have 4 days off in a row, with big plans on getting lots of writing done, and I had to cook in that room. But, I persevered.
My big old lab doesn’t like loud noises either. Fortunately we live in the mountains and fireworks are banned so it’s not so bad. What’s not good is all of the gun shots on New Year’s Eve. Those are annoying and my pup goes crazy.
Glad you liked the video. I was laughing my head off last night when I was watching Ellen videos. This particular one was one of my favs.
Thanks for your support.

We went to San Francisco the day after July 4th. So basically when the heat wave was over anyway. It was 60-70 there and felt fabulous! The rest of the week, we mostly stayed inside. I finally got my kids the annual wading pool (we always destroy it by the end of the summer, it seems). The 1st year we lived in this house, the AC stopped working during the first heat wave and it took a week+ to get a new one installed. Oof.

Oh – San Francisco – that sounds like heaven. 60-70 degrees would have felt cold up here.
And I’m thinking I might get myself a wading pool this year. All I need is enough to lay down in, right? And don’t put it in the sun. Fill it with ice.
Thanks for stopping by today, Phyllis.

As usual we did nothing exciting, just struggled through the heat, too, Patricia. I melt after 70 degrees so 100 plus I am cranky and the world is not a nice place to be in. I sit under two ceiling fans because we don’t have air conditioning either. I worked on my stories, put together quilt squares for the baby due in three weeks and napped on the sofa under the fans. Oh, I did pray for snow. π

So you understand where I was then. I had all fans blowing at full capacity. Felt sort of like I was in Death Valley. But somehow the words managed to pour out of me so I guess I can’t complain too much.
Good luck on the baby quilt!
As always, thanks for your support.

We had a very wet holiday weekend in Ohio, but comfortable, temperature-wise. Good on you for still getting the writing done! I would have taken that laptop someplace cool. Cacomistles are cute!

You’ve seen a cacomistle? I’m going to go in search of one.
Next heat wave, I’m coming to Ohio. But you guys have the humidity there and that’s not always better. But, I could get that Harley ride so it would be worth it.
Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, I’m surprised the heat didn’t damage your computer, Patricia. And YAY on the 12,000 words! π I’m still laughing over the video, thanks for sharing. As I’m up in Canada, we celebrated our Canada Day on July 1. Happy belated July 4th! π

You know, Sheila, I wondered if my computer might get too hot. It was sure blowing out hot air. Fortunately it didn’t have a melt down. That would have been disastrous.
Happy belated Canada Day to you!!

You should have come down to my house. I wrote all day and then went swimming. The pool was 93 and I felt kind of like a lobster!

Well now you invite me. I see how you are.
I sort of felt like a fish being poached – slowly. Just add some lemon juice and garlic butter and I’m ready.
Next heat wave, I know who to call, hot pool or no.

Super funny video, Patricia! Bummer about the triple digit weather and no AC. Hope you get it installed soon. We’ve been having humid, super hot days lately. We’re not used to humidity in SoCal. We have AC, so I can’t complain. Have a great week!

Hi Lynn:
You know, it’s been kind of humid up here in the mountains, too. We’re definitely not used to that. Thankfully it’s cooled down a little the past week but now we’ve had a couple of fires so that air is all smokey.
Listen to me complain!
Thanks for stopping by. Always good to see your sunny smile.
