I’ve been playing around with some of the features on my laptop in an attempt to learn how to do more cool things. I know I can record videos from my laptop, but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Late last year I learned about the “paint” feature on my computer and how I can alter photos. I’m still not very good at it, but I’m learning.
A couple of weeks ago I started playing around with my Power Point program and created my very first slide show. It’s very amateurish and kind of boring, but I enjoyed learning how all of the cool features work with this program. My experiment is uploaded below. Just click on the link and wait a few seconds for it to up load on your computer, then enjoy. I’m hoping to post more of these things in future and hopefully they’ll be a little more interesting. I may even figure out how to add mucic and stuff. For right now, this is my accomplishment. (Please note that the following download may not be compatible with all operating systems. Sorry.)
Enjoy! And as always, thanks for your support.
P.S. I’m not sure what the cinnamon roll has to do with spring, but there you go.
What’s the last new thing you attempted to learn? Are you a computer geek, who loves this kind of technology?
Word of the Day: Enceinte
Fun fact about me: My driver’s license photo is almost 12 years old. They just keep sending me new ones.
Original post by Jansen Schmidt, March 2014. Original slide show produced and photographed by Patricia Rickrode.
This old dog was able to open and watch your PowerPoint slide show. I like your photos but am glad you mentioned the cinnamon roll in advance, or I wouldn’t have known what the heck that thing was.
Patricia, I know what enceinte means in French. Do you have something big to tell us?

Hi Pat. I wish I had something exciting to tell you, but alas I do not. When I composed this post I was hopeful that I might be notified that I was a Golden Heart finalist, but on Wednesday last I found out otherwise. (sigh)
Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you were able to enjoy my experiment.

I always love your flower pics. Are you going to do a Disneyland vacation PPT for us?
I’m trying to master the smartboard features at school. I can use some, but it has so many things it can do to make lessons interactive, and there just isn’t enough time in a work day, (when there aren’t 32 kids helping me) to learn it all. Usually I’m fast at learning new programs, but this one is taking a bit of time.

Hi Suzanne:
I don’t know that smartboard is but it sounds like something I’d stay away from unless absolutely necessary. Anything containing the word “smart” suggests it’s not for me.
I may put together a Disneyland presentation. We’ll have to see. I will be uploading a video I shot to my YouTube channel, though. I’ll let everyone know when that’s available.
Thanks for stopping by.

Beautiful pics. Add some music and you’re all set. Not that I’d have a clue how to do that. Funny, i never thought about using Power Point for anything but business presentations. I’m such an accountant.
I recently bought Scrivner but have no idea how to use it. I suppose in my spare time, I’ll have to watch the tutorial videos that come with it. Looks pretty cool, though.

Hi Suzanne:
You’ll have to let me know how Scrivner works as I’m thinking of investing in that program as well. I’ve avoided it because, well, I’d have to learn yet another new thing. So much to learn – so little time.
Adding music is my next project. Stay tuned.

Lovely flower photos! And not bad for your first effort at PowerPoint. I of course am a techie so I love stuff like this. My main thing is finding new ways to bend WordPress to my will–recently, I added an online store to my brother’s business site, and customized the shipping code to work how he wanted (but then, I do this sort of thing for my day job). Keep up the good work with Powerpoint!

Bending WordPress to your will? I like that. I’ve actually learned quite a bit about wordpress, by simply using it. I wish I knew how to use some of the features available, but I’m still experimenting that that. Maybe some day.
I’m glad you enjoyed the slide show. Hopefully next time it will be more exciting. At least I haven’t given up on that project.

I need to learn a few new tricks. I know enough to know what I should be able to do, then I spend an hour trying to figure out how to do this really easy trick. That is if I can remember my password.
Also, keep in mind the pool at Disney California is kind of shallow. My son learned that the hard way. His rule is “don’t swim with your eyes closed.”

Hi Kristi. We didn’t have to find out about shallow hotel pools as it was freezing the entire time we were there. I wish I’d have packed warmer clothes. Fortunately, it didn’t rain on us.
I’m glad you’re still learning about computer stuff, too. I don’t feel so alone.

Alas, my computer wouldn’t open your slideshow. Maybe it’s a sign I shouldn’t be goofing off at work. Nah. I’m a techie moron, but I did make my own website all by myself. Well, I took a class and then made it, so I guess I had help, but still. A proud moment. And happy late B-day!

Techie moron? No, not you. You’re cool. Sorry the slideshow didn’t work for you. It was just a bunch of photos I’ve taken over the years on various trips. Nothing super special.
And, thanks for the birthday wishes. We had a really fun holiday – along with twenty-two million other people who decided this was the perfect week to visit Disneyland.

I couldn’t open it either. But I’d blame me. I’m always in learning mode when it comes to techie stuff. Sometimes I feel like the answers are locked away inside of an enceinte. 🙂

Ok, I found your slideshow in my downloads! Love the flower closeups and that Disney pedicure. 🙂

Hi Coleen. I’m glad you found the download. It took me awhile to find my own download too, after I ran the experimental video link on my blog. Then I had to figure out how to save it again where I wanted it. I’m sure there’s an easier way, but I can only do what I can figure out.
The pedicures are part of the pre-vacation fun for me. There will be more exciting toe pix in the future I’m sure.

PowerPoint is cool, isn’t it? I took a class to learn it through an adult ed program last summer. I’ve been using it to do some slides for my book trailers and other videos. I’m taking Video Idiot Boot Camp right now and learning tons of new things, even though I’ve been playing around on iMovie for a few years now. (Took me two years to discover how to get to the special effects windows and I’ve had a ball with that stuff!)
I enjoyed your slide show, especially the fancy pedicures! I live for spring and summer! Those drinks and cinnamon roll look mighty scrumptious, too! 🙂

Yes – fruity drinks and flirty toes – spring time at it’s best.
I remember poking around in Powerpoint a long time ago on a much older version of a home computer (pre-laptop days), but I’ve never experimented with the program on my laptop. Seems to work basically the same way as I remember it.
iMovie and special effects? Holy cow that sounds complicated. Maybe some day.

I’m still learning how to use my computer programs and blog tools myself! You took some great pics. Add some music to them if possible. Love the cocktails!

Add some music – you make it sound so simple. That’s my next project. In the meantime, I’ll keep taking pictures of my fancy drinks. I know how to do that and that’s one experiment I wouldn’t mind getting wrong over and over again until I get it right.
Thanks for stopping by, Phil. I hope things are warming up a bit in New York.
