Well, it’s been a year now and we’re getting to know the bed and breakfast routine pretty well. We’re also becoming familiar with the highs and lows of tourist traffic patterns here in Vicksburg. Vicksburg is very much a tourist town, but I think it’s pretty accurate to say we definitely have a tourist “season,” and thank the good lord for that.
Last year, the Baer House had some really crazy busy months followed by a couple of mediocre months then one dismal month. Then, the cycle repeated. We weren’t as prepared as we should have been for those mediocre and dismal months. But the same cannot be said for this year! This year we are making plans. (You see, you can teach an old dog a new trick.)
That’s right, we have some awesome events planned to fill in the gaps in the lodging income, starting off this week with our first ever dinner party. It’s one of those zany, audience participation murder mystery dinner dealy-o’s. We attended one last month at a local restaurant and, while it was hokey, we had a blast. I even agreed to be “the victim.”
So, without further ado, here’s the 4-1-1 on our upcoming show:
Friday, August 26, 2016 – 6:00 p.m.
$50/person – $5 corkage fee*
Includes 3-course meal, soft beverage and show
*BYOB (corkage fee applies)
Detectives Comedy Dinner Theater is an interactive comedic event suitable for the entire family. Make your reservations now for an evening of madcap fun. For more information about Detective Comedy Dinner Theater, click here: http://www.thedetectives.biz/
We’ve got several of these dinner shows on the books through the end of the year and we plan on introducing a couple of cabaret-type dinner shows in the next few weeks as well. Who knows, a certain someone, may even dust off her dancing shoes and polish the rust off her vocal chords. Stay tuned.
So tell me dear readers, do you like to attend these intimate types of dinner shows? Do you like to participate in the action? Are you good at figuring out whodunnit? Inquiring minds want to know.
Word of the Day: Animadvert
Fun fact about me: I got my start in theater at a small melodrama theater in Coloma, California.

Awww, man! I’ve always wanted to go to one of those murder mystery dinners. A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far…oh, wait. No, just a long time ago, my friend held one (conducted out of a box), and I had a blast. I’d love to attend a more professional one. I hope you take lots of pictures and let us know how it goes!

I’ll be sure to provide a recap of the night’s events. So far we only have a very small crowd committed attending, but sometimes those are the most fun. Stay tuned.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you get to a murder dinner soon. Wait, that didn’t sound right. I hope you murder a dinner soon? No, that’s not right either. But, you know what I mean.

I’ve always wanted to go to one of these, but never have. The closest thing I’ve done is an interactive mystery at the International Spy Museum in Washington. So much fun! Good luck with yours!
I am getting kitchen cabinets installed today. Hopefully I’ll have no reason to animadvert the installers. 🙂

New kitchen cabinets – hip, hip, hooray!! I can’t wait for the “after” picture.
An interactive mystery at the International Spy Museum sounds like an event I’d for sure attend. How cool that must have been? I hope ours is as exciting as that one sounds.
Have a great week and good luck with the remodel.

How fun! like Jennette, I’ve always wanted to participate in one of these. Wish you weren’t so far away. Your B&B sounds fabulous. It’s on my list. Someday I’ll get there. As for me being any good at figuring out whodunnit? I’m not allowed to talk or making any strange noises while we watch television because I have been accused of figuring things out far too early and ruining the storyline for everyone else. Must be the writer in me.

You and me both, Debra. I almost always know what’s going to happen right off the bat. Sometimes I don’t know the whole plot, but I can usually figure out the who and the why.
And, I’m glad I’m on your bucket list. I would so love to have some of my cyber friends pay a visit. We’d have so much fun. I’d arrange for you to be on the haunted tour with me. We’d have a blast chasing ghosts all over Vicksburg.
Have a great week.

Unless you fly, you have to come through Fort Worth to get to Vicksburg. Let me know if you do. I know – you’ve been here before and I was so busy with Tameri I failed to introduce myself to you. Second chance?

We are big fans of the mystery dinner theater and mystery B&B weekends and have done several of both! One of our anniversary getaways a few years back was to the Harry Packer Mansion B&B in Jim Thorpe, PA, where they do a fun, weekend-long mystery. Turned out I was the murderer, but I didn’t figure it out until just before the denouement. Good luck! Sounds like a great time.

Hey Kathy, thanks for stopping by. We’re thinking of doing one of those entire weekend things, too, but we thought we’d start small first. We’ll see how the dinners go over then expand.
I can’t picture you being a murderer, but hey, you never know. Sometimes it’s the shy, quiet types who make the best killers.
Have a great rest of the week.

Hope your mystery dinner is a big success and a lot of fun.
A couple of unrelated questions.
1. Why Baer House? Did it already have a rep under that name when you bought it?
2. Why don’t you define you ‘Word of the Day’ so we dummies can enjoy it?

Thank for the support Dave. I’ll recap after the event.
Answer #1 – the Baer House was already registered on the Historic Register. That register records the original owners of the home, which in our case was the Baer Family. We can call it anything we want, but it’ll always be the Baer House on the historic register. So . . . why change what’s working, right?
Answer #2 – look it up dummy. That’s the point. And don’t tell me you don’t own a dictionary either because no writer worth their salt doesn’t own at least 3 or 4 dictionaries and thesauruses. If that doesn’t work, try dictionary.com.
As always, thanks for visiting and have a great week.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year already. I hope you took some time to celebrate!
I love dinner theaters, and the mystery ones are a blast. I’m terrible at figuring out whodunit, but my husband is a whiz at those game. 🙂

Yes Sheila, it’s been a year. Hard to believe. What fun we’ve had, too.
I wish you lived closer so you and your hubby could come and enjoy the dinner show. It’s really hokey, but the jokes are funny and the quiz at the end is fun. Some of the questions have nothing to do with anything, they’re just there to see who’s been paying attention. It’s the little details that trip you up.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great rest of the week.
