It’s been almost 4 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s certainly one of those days that I’ll probably remember for the rest of my life. It’s the day your life changes and the day your routine is interrupted, and your life gets arranged for you by everyone except you.

We are going into our seventh year of inn ownership. That’s right, this week concludes the sixth year since we purchased the inn and moved to Vicksburg. A couple of weeks ago I blogged about my obsessive planning and having failsafes for the unexpected things that arise. I’m really at a loss without my lists. Well, even with a plan and lost of lists, things don’t always go according to plan.

When I was writing my most recent release, On Hallowed Ground, I knew pretty early on that I had to write Gage and Qiana’s story. They are secondary characters in that book, but both of them grew into real people in my mind as I was working on that manuscript. As time went on, those characters developed their own personalities, which were not explored in great depth in Noah and Fallon’s story. (more…)

Everything has been out of whack. Our city is almost back to being fully operational, which is a good thing. The only real restrictions are for large gatherings. But that doesn’t mean things are back to normal. Of course, there are the usual “new normal” things, like wearing masks and such, but even those things are more or less “recommendations” here and not actual requirements. We’ve never really had a huge volume of COVID cases in our county to start with, so everyone is just being cautious but going about their business. No real fanatics here. (more…)

cancelledI don’t know about you, but I’m so tired of seeing COVID-19 or Coronavirus. It’s everywhere and it’s getting old. It’s ruining my business and my attitude, which at the beginning of the year was pretty darn good. Remember, I was resolved to stay focused only on the positive. That’s getting really hard to do when every day I get at least 3 cancellations and no new reservations coming in. (more…)

I know we’ve all heard the expression, “laughter is the best medicine.” I happen to believe that is true. Almost. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s the VERY best medicine, because I would not have wanted to rid my body of cancer by laughing hysterically.
